She Was Demoted From Maid Of Honor Because She Would Not Pay For The Bridesmaid Dresses, So She Skipped Her Best Friend’s Wedding Altogether

This woman’s best friend got engaged and asked her to be the maid of honor. So, naturally, she said yes!

And afterward, she put aside a decent chunk of change, about three thousand dollars, to allocate toward her maid of honor expenses.

“Honestly, I was hoping I would not have to spend this much, but it was just to be safe,” she said.

Since then, though, she has put a ton of money into the wedding. She has purchased wedding attire– including shoes, jewelry, and accessories– as well as games, food, and decorations for both her bridal shower and bachelorette party.

Plus, on top of all of that, she also had to foot the bill for her travel expenses, hotel room, hair, and makeup for the wedding.

All of these expenses put her way over budget– and she was already struggling financially in the first place.

She tried to make this clear to her best friend, too, but she did not really listen or apparently care.

And most recently, her best friend finally picked out the bridesmaid dresses. Despite her absolutely loving the dress and thinking it’s beautiful, though, she just cannot afford it.

“I hated the price. An average bridesmaid dress costs one hundred and fifty to two hundred dollars. These were four hundred and fifty dollars each,” she recalled.

“There were six bridesmaids, so that would equal two thousand and seven hundred dollars. I’m sorry, that is a huge hell no. I have already spent more than I wanted to, and I reminded her that she would have to start paying for these things because I am reaching my limit.”

She also tried to come up with a more price-conscious solution and remembered how great of a seamstress her mother was.

She believes that her mother could replicate the same dress at a fraction of the cost. After all, her mother created both her and her best friend’s quinceañera dresses back in the day.

After suggesting this, though, her best friend was not into the idea. Apparently, the friend wanted to make sure they did not “risk anything happening” and did not really hear her out.

So, she was forced to just tell her friend that she would not be paying for the dresses at all since she was already thousands of dollars over her budget. And her friend totally freaked out after that.

“She got upset and said that I agreed to this wedding, so I knew it would be expensive and, as a maid of honor, it is my job to do this for her,” she explained.

Then, her friend said she had not spent a quarter of what her friend had spent on the event. And, understandably, she said, “Yeah, because it is not my wedding.”

This led to her friend basically screaming at her and accusing her of trying to force her “cheap lifestyle” down her friend’s throat.

Plus, her friend ended the conversation by saying she should no longer be the maid of honor.

She was understandably pissed and shocked by her friend’s behavior. So, at that moment, she decided not to attend the wedding at all.

And told her friend she would not be making an appearance at the ceremony beforehand, too. But, since her flight and accommodations were already paid for, she still traveled to the destination and essentially went on her own mini vacation.

Since then, though, basically all of her friends have been blowing up her phone and cursing her out. They all believe that what she did was utterly wrong and warrants an apology.

Nonetheless, she does not really feel bad about it. She spent a ton of money on her friend’s wedding and felt really underappreciated.

Who do you think is in the wrong here? If you were in her shoes, would you apologize?
