This 25-Year-Old Woman Was Supposed To Be Traveling In A Tractor-Trailer With Her Friend: But, The Truck Crashed, The Driver Died, And She Was Never Found At The Scene
On the morning of September 14, a tractor-trailer collided with an overpass while traveling down I-85 near Hillsborough, North Carolina. The truck flipped over and caught on fire, and the driver of the vehicle, Danny McNeil, died.
Upon responding to the accident, North Carolina authorities only discovered Danny and his dog in the truck. He was fifty-one years old and from Exmore, Virginia.
But, one Virginia family is certain that a loved one was in the truck when it fatally crashed– even though she is still nowhere to be found.
Alyssa Nicole Taylor, a twenty-five-year-old woman from Oak Hall, Virginia, was reported missing on September 20. She had not made contact with her family since September 13.
And according to her mother, Krista Taylor, Alyssa said that she was going to be traveling in a tractor-trailer with a friend the last time they spoke.
Text records between Alyssa and Danny also confirm that Danny was supposed to pick Alyssa up on his route from Delaware to North Carolina.
“Can you get me today? I’ll be in Oak Hall,” Alyssa asked Danny.
“Yeah,” Danny responded.

“I’ll be on Horsey Road, Oak Hall,” Alyssa clarified.
“Okay. Is that down where I picked you up last time?” Danny asked.
“Yeah. What time can you come? So I know to be ready,” Alyssa replied.
“Be up there around 2 [p.m.]. The latest,” Danny said.
After Danny tragically died in the fiery crash, though, authorities found no evidence of a second person involved.
Still, it was not until four days later that Krista found out about the crash and Danny McNeal’s death. She had been traveling home to Orlando and was taken by complete surprise after seeing news of the accident and Danny’s obituary on Facebook.
And it was at that moment that the mother recalled how her daughter, Alyssa, was supposed to be in that truck. So, Krista altered her travel route and headed to Hillsborough to investigate herself.
She first located the tow company which had transported the truck’s wreckage and also visited the scene of the crash.
Krista was hoping to find clues that would put her mind at ease and reassure her that Alyssa was not involved. But, what she found did the total opposite.
While sifting through the burnt remains of Danny’s truck, Krista discovered her daughter’s blanket. The blanket used to be pink and covered in teddy bears. Now, it is covered in soot and dirt.
“We believe she was in that accident. Lyssa never ever went anywhere without that blanket,” recalled Alyssa’s cousin, Danielle.
“She was over at my house one day and spotted that blanket from my daughter’s crib and wanted it. After that, it went everywhere.”
Next, Krista visited I-85, where the truck had collided with the overpass. While there, she went live on Facebook and showed all of the crash debris that was still left behind.
And after about twenty-five minutes of combing the side of the road, Krista saw a storm drain and began to investigate it.
That’s when she spotted a suspicious item at the bottom– an earring. So, Krista reached her arm into the drain grate and used a piece of wood to scoop up the piece of jewelry. And after pulling it into the light, she confirmed that the earring was Alyssa’s.
“Oh my god, it’s her earring,” Krista said through tears in a Facebook live video.
“It’s definitely her earring. It was my earring, but my baby wore all of my stuff because she didn’t have much of her own. Yes, this is my baby’s earring.”
Following the chilling discovery, Krista decided that she was going to meet with officers at the Accomack Sheriff’s Office to turn over the earring. However, she did reveal that she would be most comfortable if the case was given to another agency for further investigation.
It has now been just over a month since Alyssa’s disappearance, though, and her loved ones still have not gotten any answers.
“People don’t just vanish. So, she’s somewhere, and, you know, we are not going to give up. We are going to fight to find her,” Krista said to WAVY.
The Taylor family has taken to social media in hopes of raising awareness about the case and ascertaining Alyssa’s whereabouts. A Facebook group entitled Find Alyssa Taylor was created; at the same time, Alyssa’s aunt, Shelly, and her cousin, Danielle, have continued posting on their own personal Facebook accounts.
“North Carolina Sheriff’s Office says their investigation has led them to believe she was not in that crash… We believe she was in that accident,” Danielle wrote in one Facebook post.
“There’s so much proof in front of their faces, and it’s like they don’t care. We want answers. This family doesn’t give up.”
Alyssa stood at five foot five, weighed two hundred pounds, and had brown hair and green eyes. If you have any information that could help authorities locate Alyssa, you are urged to contact the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office at (757) 787-1131.
