This 24-year-old guy has a girlfriend who is 25. And just yesterday, his girlfriend called him at about 6:00 p.m. while on her way home from work to say that she was going over to his place for dinner.

Apparently, his girlfriend was just feeling very tired and was not in the mood to cook dinner.

So, he told her that was fine and explained what he was cooking for dinner– mac and cheese, sausages, and frozen mixed vegetables.

“I know it’s not the best, but I’m a really unconfident cook,” he admitted.

He claimed that he’s just not very good at cooking. And he only began learning his way around the kitchen just recently.

That’s why he doesn’t really like cooking for other people because he is always worried that he will mess something up and the food will turn out bad.

Once he revealed his dinner plans to his girlfriend, though, she apparently had a completely different idea. In fact, she flat out said “no” to his dinner menu and claimed she was going to pick up steak, broccoli, and the ingredients for a special sauce– because that’s what she wanted for dinner.

Now, in the beginning, he was pretty hesitant about making all of that and really just wanted to stick to his original plan. After his girlfriend kept insisting on steak, though, he finally agreed, and his girlfriend brought all of the ingredients over.

Upon arriving, he wound up asking her for help because he honestly had no idea what he was doing.

“But she told me that defeated the purpose of me making dinner for her because she was tired,” he recalled.

So, he ultimately turned to YouTube and watched a video on how to cook the steak. He claimed that it did not turn out totally awful, either. However, the steak was definitely a bit overcooked. It was not exactly “hockey puck” overcooked, but medium-well instead of medium-rare.

The sauce his girlfriend wanted was a little thin, too. Finally, the onions were apparently cut too big, and the broccoli turned out too mushy. While he recognized that the dinner certainly was not “five-star” quality, though, he thought it still tasted pretty good.

His girlfriend, on the other hand, was actually really upset with the meal. According to him, she was disappointed by his “lack of effort.” His girlfriend also claimed that if he didn’t want to have her over for dinner, then he should have just said so.

Plus, after the dinner, she wound up leaving his place pretty early. And surprisingly, his girlfriend has not spoken to him ever since the meal.

“I’m just wondering if I should have tried harder,” he vented. “I thought it was okay, but maybe it wasn’t.”

So now, he is trying to figure out whether he was really the jerk for messing up his girlfriend’s dinner because it was his first time ever cooking that meal.

Didn’t his girlfriend invite herself over for dinner? Should she have just been grateful to eat whatever he already was making instead of thrusting a new meal idea on him? Should he feel bad for “messing up” the dinner or not? How would you handle this situation?
