When she asked her daughter what being “off limits” means, her daughter explained that it’s a cruel practice her teacher uses. When students are “off-limits,” no one is allowed to speak or interact with them for the rest of the school day.
She had never heard of her daughter’s teacher using this method before and was appalled.
“Maybe there’s more to the story, but my daughter insists there isn’t, and I believe her,” she said.
“She was worried I would be mad, but I definitely am not. I don’t see why she should be forced to watch a movie that is a prize, was presented as optional, and was not educational.”
She decided she would email her daughter’s teacher and ask her why she was in trouble for returning to class. She also would like the teacher to elaborate on her “off-limits” punishment method.
Her plan is to approach the situation carefully so that her daughter’s teacher doesn’t continue to treat her poorly over an angry parent email.
If things escalate poorly with her daughter’s teacher, she’ll bring the principal into the discussion.
