She stood in a dark hallway of the villa as she realized she couldn’t hear her parent’s voices. She ran into the room she shared with her older sister and was terrified.
She got under the covers and eventually fell back asleep. The next morning, she woke up, and there were police officers in the villa. The kitchen and living room had been destroyed. As it turned out, she woke up to the sounds of a robber.
“They had taken everything, from the TV to the safe box with our passports and money inside,” she remembered.
“Everything was gone. My mind instantly went back to last night and what might have happened to me if I’d gone into that TV room while they were in there.”

“I’ll forever be thankful to scare younger me for going back to bed rather than investigating the noise further,” she added.
Can you imagine how terrifying that must have been for a five-year-old?
