How To Tell If A Handbag Is The Real Deal, Or As Fake As Your Ex

Let’s face it: no one wants to be fooled– Not by a past relationship, and certainly not by a handbag that promises authenticity but delivers straight-up imitation.

It’s just a fashion (and bank account) fiasco waiting to happen.

So, before you decide to drop a bunch of money on a brand-new bag, here’s how you can figure out if you’re holding the real deal or just a faux pas.

Examine The Material

Genuine handbags are designed with top-notch materials and feature gorgeous stitching and true craftsmanship. They tend to just have weight and touch to them that genuinely feels “rich.”

Imitation bags, on the other hand, might look good from afar. But after you get a bit closer, it’s much easier to spot the shoddy craftsmanship and sub-par material.

It’s easy to get blinded by charm and charisma in a relationship, but don’t forget to take a closer look before you even consider adding a new handbag to your repertoire.

Inspect The Logo

An authentic brand logo is usually a work of art (or at least accurate). If you are buying a legitimate designer purse, then everything– from the brand’s logo typeface to the placement– should be flawless.

So, if you notice that a logo is smudged, crooked, or just plain inaccurate, that’s a telltale sign that a bag is fake. Don’t fall for the charade.

Take A Good Look At The Hardware

All of the zippers, clasps, and locks on a genuine handbag are supposed to function smoothly. Not to mention, the hardware will have an impeccable finish.

You can spot cheap hardware by looking for pieces that stick together, zippers or clasps that don’t open seamlessly, and any signs of tarnish on the metal.

If you can spot these imperfections, it’s a major red flag.

Check The Price Tag

Unfortunately, real handbags are not cheap– plain and simple. So, any deal that seems “too good to be true” most likely is.

Do your due diligence before making any purse purchases. Even a simple Google search can help you determine what the market-average price is for the bag you’re interested in.

And if you think you’ve come across a heck of a bargain– with a purse being offered at flea market price– don’t waste your breath. It’s just as unbelievable as all those empty promises your ex made you.

Authentication Card And Serial Number

If you want to get down to the nitty-gritty with your purse inspection, it doesn’t hurt to check for certification.

Genuine handbags come with proper authentication and serial numbers that can be traced directly back to the manufacturer.

Yes, fake bags might try to imitate these, but you can check to confirm before handing over your credit card.

Trust Your Gut

Sometimes, you can just sense when something is authentic. If something feels off, trust your gut and realize that it probably is.

Never deny your instincts, either, because it’s always better to be safe and save your money than be sorry.
