This 36-year-old woman and her 38-year-old husband have been with one another since they were both back in high school.

They’ve been dating for 20 years, married for 15, and have two teenage children. Although everything hasn’t been easy for them, they have always remained in love with one another despite the bad times.

She used to think they were the most stable couple ever, especially since their friends have issues, but she and her husband never really do.

This year has been wonderful for her and her husband since he’s making a lot of money, their kids are grown up enough that they can stay home alone, and she and her husband have been spending so much time together.

This past Sunday, she and her husband decided to go to a nearby Renaissance fair to have some fun, and they had a lot to drink.

When they arrived back home later that evening, she went to lie down as she had a headache. Her husband sent her a text from another room in their house, wanting to know if she was calling it a night, and she said yes.

She texted him that she loved him and goodnight. He said the same thing back, but then 20 minutes after the fact, he texted her saying he would like to get a divorce.

He went on about how he was not happy and hasn’t been for quite some time, so she got up to go speak to him face-to-face about this deeply upsetting news.

“The next 3 or 4 hours he just basically went on [about] how awful I am, and he would rather work than be home because of me, how I don’t have enough…passion, how I suck at keeping his clothes clean, how I sleep on the couch too much.. which I want to add that he does that too and half the time I fall asleep on the couch while folding everyone’s laundry and he has clean clothes I just fail at getting them out right away at times…and the list honestly kind of goes on,” she explained.

“I also work, it’s only about 26 hours a week, but I also do everything with the kids, rides, activities, etc., and he also works nights, so he’s not home for at least 4 nights out of the week. We don’t sleep together in bed either way because he’s going to bed by the time I’m getting up for the day.”

“It was really a shock, I thought I was amazing to him. I do literally, and I mean literally everything. I do yard work, housework, pay the bills take care of the kids. When he’s home, he has literally zero responsibilities. And I will admit I get overwhelmed at times and do get an attitude when I do all this, and he still needs help with things like finding where the peanut butter is in the pantry.”

The night after he sprung a divorce on her, they spoke at length. He went from claiming he’s really unhappy to he’s completely done, to he does not really want to divorce, but he doesn’t want to be miserable.

He then suggested working through things and attempting therapy, and he finally mentioned he wished he never said anything about a divorce and had attempted to speak to her before blurting that out. She still does not understand where he is coming from. She thought he was her soulmate and that they would be spending the rest of their lives together.

They have accomplished so many things, and they are getting up there in years. She feels incredibly insecure and that the rug could be ripped out from underneath her at a moment’s notice, which is crippling.

“I don’t take divorce or the threat of it lightly, and if that was a consideration before he even talked to me, I don’t even know how to feel,” she continued.

“It’s like even if I work on myself to communicate my feelings and not be so stressed with day-to-day life, it’s only because I’m scared of starting over. We’ve come to an agreement on things and felt better by the end of yesterday, but I can’t but still feel incredibly sad and shocked about it all, and I feel like an awful person in general now.”
