Given that this was a regular everyday occurrence for Tony, it was bizarre when his mother suddenly changed her behavior towards serving him this dish.
“One day, I think I was in 10th grade, I came home, and she was super excited to feed me,” he said. “She was like, ‘No, the food is so good today.””
This comment signaled to him that something was off while he sat down to eat his meal.
“She’s just laughing, and I’m like, ‘Did this crazy lady spit in my food or something?'” he said. “I go into the trash can, and do you know what I see? Feathers!”
It might be odd to see chicken feathers in the garbage can, but it’s even weirder when the feathers aren’t from a chicken but a duck.
“I started picking through the trash…and do you know what I find?” he asks. “I find this part of a duck–the mouth.”
He puts up an image of a duck resembling a male mallard showing what part of the duck he shockingly found in the trash.
“My mom, on her way home from work, [killed] a duck on the road,” he explained. “She brought it home, plucked it, and fed it to her children. And do you know what she told me? That she was going to do it again in the future!”
Hopefully, she didn’t fulfill her promise to repeat this practice in the future– Tony’s lucky that he didn’t get horribly sick from eating roadkill. So, it’s probably best not to try this one at home.
