On January 31, a dog named Connie was rescued from a shipping container. It is believed that she had been trapped inside for at least a week.

A team of marine inspectors from the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston had been selecting random shipping containers out of thousands for inspection when they suddenly heard some noises coming from one of the containers.

It sounded like scratching and barking, and sure enough, when they opened the door of the container, a dog leaped out, relieved to be free and in the fresh air.

The Coast Guard members gave her some water and then took her to the Pasadena Animal Shelter in Pasadena, Texas, for further care.

Afterward, it was decided that Connie would be sent to the Forever Changed Animal Rescue (FCAR) in Maryland. On February 6, she bid farewell to her rescuers at the Hooks Airport in Texas.

During the plane ride to her new home, she rode first class and even acted as a co-pilot to “two amazing Pilots N Paws pilots.”

When she arrived at FCAR, she was greeted with plenty of treats and warm smiles. She was immediately taken in for a full examination, including bloodwork, X-rays, and an ultrasound. According to the organization, she was slightly underweight and weighed 30 pounds.

She was also covered in fleas and tested positive for heartworm, which they started treatment for right away. After the ultrasound was performed, it was discovered that Connie was pregnant!

“The fetuses have strong heartbeats and were bouncing around, so while her pregnancy is guarded due to her being without food and water for 8 days or more, we are hopeful given what we could see,” FCAR wrote in an update.
