When this 24-year-old woman was 11 and her brother was an infant, her father was unfaithful to her mother. After her father’s affair, her mother walked out on the family and divorced him.

“She basically abandoned us because we reminded her of her cheating husband,” she said.

Several months later, her father married another woman, and her stepmother had a 6-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

Unfortunately, her father didn’t focus on parenting her and her brother; instead, he only spent time with his wife and stepdaughter.

It was as if she and her brother were invisible. She had to take care of her brother because her father and stepmother wouldn’t step in.

“Ever since my brother was 4, I knew he was ‘different.’ The two of us would do makeup together. He would love me dressing him up and dancing around the house,” she explained.

They only did this when their father, stepmother, and stepsister left the house on family bonding excursions.

Years later, when she was 18 and her brother was 8, he tried on their stepsister’s gorgeous princess gown.

It was a gown neither of them had seen before, so her brother was excited about it. But their stepsister was furious when she discovered he’d worn her dress.

After their stepsister informed their father about what happened, their father physically harmed him. She held her brother in his arms, and the two of them ran away to a local hospital. From there, she called their grandma, who allowed them to stay with her from then on.

Thankfully, her grandmother paid for her to attend college, and now she’s working while earning her Master’s.

She and her brother live on their own now, and their grandmother has continued paying her brother’s living expenses because he’s only 14.

Sadly, their father has refused to say sorry. After she and her brother ran away from their father’s house, he called them and demanded that they come home and say sorry for their antics.

Instead, they cut off communication with him. Several years ago, she and her brother found out that their father’s second wife had an affair, filed for divorce, and moved out with her daughter.

About two months ago, her father was diagnosed with cancer. Since he didn’t have her phone number, he couldn’t get in touch with her, so he told her grandmother.

He informed them that he was slowly dying and hoped to spend however much time he had left with his family members.

Her brother is still scared of their father. Because of the trauma he endured, he stopped playing dress-up and dancing around the house for several years.

Therapy tremendously helped her brother, though, and he started smiling and gaining his self-love and confidence back.

After what their father did to her brother, she would never allow her brother around him again. For weeks, her father repeatedly contacted her to say he was sorry.

“After ignoring him for months, I finally snapped and told him he was the worst father one could have; we aren’t his family; he never treated us like one, every day I wished for him to die, and that he deserves to suffer alone,” she shared.

She acknowledged that her words were blunt and cruel. Her father started sobbing, but she didn’t feel guilty about hurting him after the way he’d treated them.

However, her grandmother scolded her for how she spoke to her father, telling her that she shouldn’t have been so harsh.

What advice would you give her?
