They Moved Into A Camper Due To A Housing Crisis, And It Only Costs $373 A Month To Own It

For those who like to live a mobile, active, and carefree lifestyle on the road, “van life” is a concept that’s incredibly appealing.
In recent years, more and more people have decided to start living in a motor vehicle of some sort. But it’s not just for the adventure aspect of the lifestyle.
With the high cost of rent and so many regions being affected by housing shortages, owning a home seems entirely out of reach.
One young couple moved into a camper as their first home after becoming fed up with paying rent.
A 23-year-old woman named Ana and her 25-year-old boyfriend, were paying over $2,000 per month in rent.
Now, they live in a camper for nearly half the cost. In a viral TikTok video that has amassed 6.4 million views, Ana (@camperparkprincess) gave a house tour of their camper.
The camper has a living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and a room with a bunk bed. Their space looks clean and does not appear to be cramped.
In the video, she revealed that the payment is $373 per month, which means each person only has to contribute $170.
She showed off a hidden pantry where the food, appliances, and extra cleaning supplies were stored.

Next, she headed to the bathroom, which was complete with a shower, counter space, and toilet.
A sliding door separated the bathroom from the couple’s bedroom. Above the bed, there were several cabinets used to store their clothes.
A space underneath the bed that was intended to be used as a dog crate was converted into a shoe storage space.
She noted that their own dog was too big to fit in there and that they could also lift the bed to reach more of their stuff.
There were plenty of drawers for kitchen utensils, dishes, and toiletries. The “bunk bed room” was currently being used as a storage room for various items, such as a first aid kit, books, and dog food.
In a series of other videos, she broke down how much she and her boyfriend spent during their first month living in a camper during peak travel season.
It cost them $1,100, including water, sewage, electricity, cable, and internet expenses. She also took outdoor decorations, charcoal, and firewood into account.
The camper payment was $373. Lastly, they spent $176 to get a P.O. box since they didn’t have a mailbox. Overall, their total came out to $2,400.
She also explained how to find a campground or place to park your camper in. The first step is to look for campgrounds that offer extended stays so you won’t be forced to move every 30 days.
Search for campgrounds in your area and then contact them about extended stays, even if that’s not a feature listed on their website.
Don’t forget to ask about utility fees and jot everything down. Finally, visit the campgrounds to make sure they’re well-kept and safe.
While it’s nice to see young people finding creative and resourceful solutions to the housing crisis, living in a camper may not be ideal for long-term living. Hopefully, housing will become more affordable in the future.
