He Told His Wife She Needs To Be A Better Stay-At-Home Mom, Or Else He’s Going To Leave Her

This 33-year-old man and his wife, 27, have a 2-year-old son named Landon. He has his own dental practice, and his wife is a stay-at-home mom. He earns enough money for his wife to care for their son full-time.

She got pregnant fairly early in their relationship and moved into his place about a year after they started dating.

They got married a week after Landon was born. However, he doesn’t think his wife has been a great stay-at-home mother.

“I’ll frequently come home to a messy house. Our son will be unbathed, laundry not done, and no dinner cooked. I’ve brought this up on multiple occasions, and she says Landon is a handful, and she doesn’t have time to get all the duties accomplished,” he said.

From his perspective, Landon is easy to care for, and he never has any issues with him while he’s home after work and on weekends.

He never thought his wife was being honest and didn’t take her seriously, but he never verbalized these thoughts because he didn’t want to start an argument.

Last week, his wife traveled out of state to see her mom in hospice. She and her mom haven’t had a relationship in many years, so he’s never been introduced.

He thought it would make sense for him to stay home and care for Landon while his wife visited her mom, so he took time off work.

“It’s been the easiest week of my life since I was in high school. I did the math, and changing diapers averaged 20 minutes a day, cooking all meals took 40, loading the dishwasher took 10, giving him a bath was about 30 minutes a piece, cleaning took me about 25 minutes a day, and he was so well-behaved!” he explained.

He and Landon had a blast and played together, and he estimated that the “actual work” took about an hour and a half per day.

When he did the work on his own that he normally expected his wife to do as a stay-at-home mother, he was angry that it seemed like she didn’t do any of these tasks.

It felt unfair that she wasn’t putting in effort to do housework and childcare while he was working so much to provide a life for her and Landon.

“She gets back today, and, frankly, once she is over her mother, I’m planning on telling her that after living in her shoes for a week, I need her to stop up to the plate because the amount of effort she’s been putting in is unacceptable,” he shared.

If his wife doesn’t put in more work around the house, he plans to file for divorce. He would feel like he cared for two kids if his wife continued not pitching in with housework and caring for Landon.

Since she’s a few years younger than him, he wonders if she’s still immature and hasn’t gotten accustomed to adult responsibilities.

But he believes that after a woman has a child and stays home to care for their kids while her partner works, she should do the household chores and childrearing that most stay-at-home mothers do.

What advice would you give him?
