This 28-year-old man and his wife, Trisha, 28, got married four years ago. He always assumed they were on the same wavelength about living near his family. Not long ago, his wife mentioned moving elsewhere, and he told her he wouldn’t consider this an option.

His parents are 60, and he’s incredibly close with them, as well as his siblings, John, 30, Matteo, 26, Isabel, 24, and Dina, 22.

His whole family lives just miles away from one another. Their ritual is a Sunday family dinner. He adores hanging out with his family, which makes him incredibly happy.

“Before we got married, I made it clear to Trisha that I would not negotiate on moving away from my family. She seemed fine with it at the time,” he said.

From his perspective, it seemed like Trisha loved getting together with his family, and she seemed to fit right in and developed a close bond with them.

Lately, Trisha told him she wanted to see new cities and wouldn’t be happy living in the same town for the rest of her life.

While he understood where she was coming from, he wanted to continue living near his loved ones and the most supportive people in his life, and Trisha’s suggestion about moving away didn’t change his mind.

If they moved further away, he wouldn’t be able to get together with his family as often. He’s already busy with his job and spending time with Trisha, so it’s convenient living near his family so that he can fit family time into his weekly routine.

Family dinners are important and special to him, as well as his close relationships with his family members, and he doesn’t want any of that to change.

“When I told Trisha about my stance on not moving, things got heated between us. She expressed her dissatisfaction with staying so close to my family, calling it ‘weird,'” he explained.

Even though he acknowledged that Trisha wasn’t as close with her family and didn’t relate to how close he was to his family, he didn’t want to give in to her wishes because his family is a huge part of his life.

“In the heat of the argument, I told Trisha that if she wanted to move, she was welcome to do so, but I would not be joining her. I didn’t mean it as an ultimatum,” he shared.

What he was hoping to get across was that he and Trisha were on different wavelengths about where they wanted to live. After the fight, Trisha was furious with him.

She told him he cared more about his family than her, and she has ignored him ever since. He didn’t intend to upset her or make her feel like she didn’t matter to him, but he didn’t want to move away from his family.

What advice would you give him?
