His Wife Cried When He Said It’s Not Appropriate To Wear A Tiny Little Dress To His Work Dinner At A Michelin-Star Restaurant
This man and his wife are both 34, and they don’t have kids, as their main focus is on their respective careers.
He’s spent six months so far trying to get promoted at the engineering firm where he works. He thinks it’s quite possible that he will land a position in upper management sometime this year.
There’s a tradition at his office where anyone who is about to land a major promotion is invited out to a particular restaurant along with their spouse to do a “check-in” with owners and managers at the company.
Usually, the person up for the promotion is then given the position they’re up for the next day everyone is back in the office.
“Well, I got the invite yesterday for my big dinner this weekend,” he explained. “The head of my department moved to another firm at the beginning of April, so the position is open.”
“I’ve gotten a few pats on the back and wink-winks at work, and I think it’s my time. I have a feeling I’m going to be the new department manager.”
He’s been working his heart out to get here, and he’s positive the owners of his company know how dedicated he is.
Eventually, this could put him in a position to buy into the company one day. So, this dinner is a huge deal to him, and his wife knows how much he needs everything to go great.
Yesterday, his wife went shopping for an outfit and got her hair colored in anticipation of the big night out this weekend. She finally said she was ready to show him what she’s going to wear to dinner.

“It’s a Michelin-star restaurant, way fancier than we would typically take ourselves to. I’ve been so excited for the opportunity for my wife to come enjoy the restaurant as well,” he explained.
“So, she reveals her outfit to me earlier tonight, and I was quite taken aback. It was a VERY revealing tiny black dress, with big, tall, fancy high heels. And, while I think she looks fantastic, it is in absolutely no way work-appropriate. Maybe to a club if you were trying to show EVERYTHING off.”
The dress is skin-tight and leaves nothing to the imagination. He has never witnessed his wife wear or purchase anything like this dress, which adds to the shock.
He reminded his wife that she looks amazing, but the dress she picked out is not appropriate for his work dinner. He very kindly outlined his concerns to his wife about her outfit, but it escalated into a blowout fight.
His wife was incredibly defensive and said there’s nothing wrong with her dress. She feels he should want to show her off on his important evening out.
His wife is currently saying she will not come to the dinner at all since he had the audacity to criticize what she wanted to wear.
“I told her I’m concerned that my older, fairly conservative managers are probably not going to be super comfortable with the outfit (and no, I don’t think my wife needs to cater to how strangers feel, but I do think there’s a slight difference here considering it’s a situation directly related to a work environment for me),” he continued.
“It escalated into a fight with her saying she either goes in that outfit or she doesn’t go, some tears from her, and now sleeping in the spare room because I wouldn’t back down that the dress is not an okay choice for this type of dinner.”
He’s left wondering if he was wrong to tell his wife not to wear that dress to his work dinner. What do you think?
