Stick to One Style of Planter
Faux plants, especially large ones, tend to come in tiny, plain planters. Switch out the planters to ones that actually match your style to keep everything looking more streamlined. Small planters can also be a dead giveaway for a plant’s phoniness.
Luckily, this simple issue can be solved by placing the plant in a basket to hide the base or using a larger pot. To take it a step further, add a layer of moss, dirt, or pot filler to fool people of your plant’s authenticity.
Clean Your Plants Regularly
Fake plants may not be living organisms, but they still need a little love. Dust clings to all objects, including plants, so you should wipe down the leaves regularly to keep them looking healthy.
For real plants, dust isn’t as big an issue because they get watered and misted. So, if your faux plant is noticeably caked in dust, that’s an indicator of its fraudulence.
Reshape Your Plants
You can often tell a plant is fake when it looks too uniform and perfect. Don’t be afraid to gently reshape the leaves and stems of your faux plant to droop or bend slightly. Adding some flaws will bring some realism to the table.
