He’s An Orthodontist Warning You To Steer Clear Of Veneer Techs

It seems that over the past few years, people have been more upfront about their experiences with getting veneers.
If you didn’t know, veneers are custom-made tooth covers or ‘shells’ that are placed over your teeth to improve their appearance and protect them from any further damage.
People get veneers for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, people are simply born with oddly shaped teeth, come from a long line of dental issues, want whiter teeth, etc.
If you do some research, you’ll also see that many celebrities have gotten veneers over the years, and many dentist content creators are quick to critique any bad work.
One of the most well-known facts about getting veneers is that they can be extremely expensive.
Therefore, some people who are desperate for a new smile will venture anywhere that boasts about cheap or more reasonably priced veneers.
However, one online orthodontist is warning his audience to beware of anyone who boasts about being a “veneer tech.”
Dr. Winters (@thebentist), an orthodontist and content creator, went viral on TikTok last year after critiquing the video of a man who was showing off his new “veneers” that were likely put in by an unqualified “veneer technician.”
“This man is going to regret this so much in 5 years,” says Dr. Winters in his viral TikTok video.

“As you guys know, when you go somewhere like Turkey to get veneers, they don’t actually give you veneers. You see, these are called crown preps, not veneers.”
Dr. Winters goes on to explain that the man, who jokingly shows off his shaven-down teeth in his video, was under the impression that he was undergoing the process of getting professional veneers but wasn’t.
“When you get veneers, they just shave a top layer off your teeth just a tiny bit, and they put kind of an outer shell onto your teeth,” explains Dr. Winters.
“That’s what a veneer is. If you look at his teeth, these are actually crown preps, [where] they shave all the way around the tooth, getting rid of 50% of your tooth to put a cap over the whole thing.”
“People go over to different countries to get this done because it’s cheaper, and they think they’re getting a good result, but really, they’re just ruining their teeth forever.”
Dr. Winters explains that the man in the video will likely suffer from tooth damage, pain, and sensitivity in the future.
He’ll likely have to replace his tooth crowns every ten years and will need dentures when he’s older.
To sway his viewers from immediately wanting veneers, Dr. Winters says there are better options to explore first.
The man in the fake veneers video could have gotten braces to straighten his teeth and a whitening treatment to give his real teeth a fighting chance.
However, he likely fell for the scheming of someone who claimed to be a certified “veneer technician,” but that’s a career that doesn’t officially exist. Only trained and certified dentists can properly give someone veneers.
“The only time I recommend getting veneers is if you just absolutely don’t wanna go into braces or if you hate the shape of your teeth,” adds Dr. Winters at the end of his video.
“Because I can straighten up your teeth, but I can’t change the shape. Just please don’t do this.”
So, folks, if you want to change up your smile, remember that the only people you should discuss your options with are certified dentists and orthodontists. If you get approached by a “veneer tech,” don’t let them near your teeth!
