Recently, TikToker Remy (@veggiekins) opened up about her past struggles with addiction in a raw and emotional video that really resonated with many viewers.

She became an addict when she was 13 years old. She lived in Asia, so according to her, it was much simpler to gain access to substances than in the U.S.

It all started the summer before high school. She experienced a lot of firsts in one night, including drinking and trying a substance.

She knew multiple dealers and befriended many of them. Additionally, as a girl, it was easy for her to get into clubs.

“I always was a little bit nervous about when the first time would be that I would experience those things, and once that was stripped away, it kind of made everything feel less serious and less intimidating because it felt almost normalized in a way to me,” Remy explained.

She continued to try more substances, and her behavior escalated from there. She went straight to hard drugs without even covering the basics first, such as smoking a cigarette.

She thinks that being diagnosed with depression as a toddler and OCD as a teenager, as well as struggling with an eating disorder, made her a little more susceptible to addiction.

Her early exposure to drugs also caused her to think it was normal. She started to get more and more extreme, and at a certain point, she had tried almost every single substance out there.

She would self-medicate and do everything in her power not to be sober.

“After a while, I think I noticed that it was more of a problem when I shifted from using these things, and doing this risky behavior in a party environment to doing it alone and just like on my own,” Remy said.

“I was going through some other pretty negative things at that time in my life as well, so I was definitely using it as a coping mechanism. It was almost just like a perfect storm of everything altogether that kind of led to the ultimate rock bottom.”

In the comments section, some TikTok users praised Remy for her strength and vulnerability in sharing such a painful chapter of her life.

“Thank you for sharing your story. I think it’s important to see and hear from people who struggled with addiction and then recovered,” stated one user.

“It’s such a blessing that you’re still with us. I’m so proud of you for fighting and healing and having the courage to share your story,” commented another.

“Americans have such a specific view on drugs and addicts. The focus tends to be on the money cost when the cost was so much more to you as a young person. You are brave for sharing your story, and I admire you greatly!” exclaimed a third.
