Nothing is more romantic than a man hopping on a plane and flying all the way to meet you for a first date. It’s a grand gesture, and who doesn’t love those?
Well, romance is not a guarantee, even for cross-state flights for a date. Sometimes, it can turn out to be a dumpster fire. TikToker Sydney (@sydneyalie) had this experience when a guy flew to Dallas to meet her for a first date.
He picked her up to take her out on a date; however, he was wearing a T-shirt and sweatpants while she had on heels and a cute outfit.
She had even done her hair and makeup for the occasion. He immediately told her that he didn’t know what to wear or what to pack for the trip.
When she got into the car, he was blasting music, and she had to keep turning it down to ask him questions about himself. They ended up going to Texas Roadhouse, and he ordered a huge margarita. She ordered a much smaller glass.
Finally, they began chatting. He kept bringing up how badly he wanted to get married and have a wife. He had just moved to Utah and joined the LDS church there to find a partner.
Sydney tried to change the subject because it was getting a little unnerving. The conversation then shifted to how terrible he thought the mayor of New York was.
She retorted that she actually wanted to live in New York for the next decade of her life because her career was based there. At one point, he got up to use the restroom.
The server stopped by their table to check on them. When Sydney complained to the server about how awful her date was going, the server told her she would come over to shut it down if she gave her a signal.

“He also booked this flight and didn’t tell me, like I never suggested he should come out to Dallas,” said Sydney. “He was in Hawaii…he tells me the next day he booked flights to come out. So, I’m like, okay, you need to book a hotel like you’re not staying with me.”
The end of dinner was super awkward. They each could tell they weren’t a match. He still paid for the date, even though she offered to split the bill. He ordered a second margarita to go and drove Sydney home.
In the car, she apologized for the date not going so well. They had had great conversations on the phone, but it just didn’t work out in person.
He seemed to be good-natured about the whole thing and decided to chalk it up as a funny experience. Fortunately, the date ended without any hard feelings, and she returned to her hotel room safely.
At least this date helped her discover some of her turn-offs, which include the word “bussin’,” house music blaring in the car on a first date, impolite eaters, ordering a second large margarita when she hasn’t even finished her first drink, and mullets.
“If a man ever asks to come visit you, say no if you are both from out of state and you’re both in uncharted territory,” warned Sydney. “Say no; that’s all I have to say.”
