Sometimes, you meet the love of your life. Other times, you end up sitting in a stranger’s dirty living room, wondering how you got there in the first place.

TikToker Emma (@emmawahlburger) is interviewing one woman about the worst date she’s ever been on. So, this woman matched with a guy on a dating app, and he proceeded to ask her out to dinner.

He picked her up from her place, and she got into the car. About 10 minutes into the drive, she asked him where they were going to eat.

He looked her straight in the eyes and said that he wanted to go back to his house instead. She started panicking on the inside, thinking that her life might be in danger.

However, she felt too awkward to tell him to take her back home. At that point, there was no escape, especially since they were barreling down the highway at 70 miles per hour.

When they arrived at his house, she immediately noticed that it was horribly messy. He put on the movie Shrek, and they started watching it.

He was trying really hard to inch closer to her, but she kept scooting away to maintain a safe, respectable distance between them.

Halfway through the movie, her stomach started growling. She hadn’t eaten because she had been expecting to go out to dinner. This man didn’t even think to provide snacks for the movie.

“I’m thinking to myself, free will exists, and so I just say I’m going to go home, and I call an Uber and leave,” said the woman. “That was that.”

She never talked to him again. Afterward, she unmatched with him and blocked him. She has no clue where he is or what he’s doing today.

No one should have to choose between personal safety and a promised dinner. For many women, a last-minute change in plans for a date is an automatic dealbreaker because it removes that sense of safety and control.

In the comments section, some TikTok users offered advice and shared similar experiences. If you don’t like the situation you’re in, you’re allowed to leave.

“I learned the hard way that all first dates need to be in a very public place, and you meet there. Also, another lesson learned the hard way: don’t let them know where you work or live before getting to know them,” wrote one user.

“The first red flag was right at the car ride. Next time, leave as soon as he stops the car. Do not go inside the house,” warned another.

“The first red light and I would have been yeeting myself out the door straight to the closest restaurant…like what do you mean we’re not eating?” declared a third.
