If you’re not good at spotting red flags in relationships, you need to hear this story that Natalie (@natalieavni) shared on TikTok.
Natalie is an ultrasound technician who had an experience with a patient she had to share. Her newly pregnant patient came in with her partner for a scan, and Natalie couldn’t believe his reaction to her pregnancy.
The technician noticed that the patient’s ovaries were very plump, as if she had taken some kind of medicine to ovulate to help her get pregnant.
Natalie asked her patient if she had taken any medicine, but the patient insisted she had gotten pregnant on her own and was barely even trying.
“I said ‘oh my God, how exciting’ [and] her partner over here word for word and the same tone, [said] ‘yeah, how exciting’,” Natalie imitated in a sarcastic, uninterested tone.
Natalie explained that the patient’s face turned red, suggesting this wasn’t a joke. Natalie then responded, “Well, I am so happy for you,” specifically to the patient and not her partner.
She said she emphasized the word “you” in person even more than she did in the TikTok video. Natalie’s comment section was flooded with comments from people who had noticed red flags in their own relationships while pregnant.
One commenter shared a story of how her husband refused to kiss her before her c-section and how it led her to divorce him two weeks after having the baby.
Another user revealed that when she asked her coworker whether he was excited about his wife’s pregnancy, he said, “No.”

A different TikTok comment claimed, “pregnancy is a humiliation ritual.” However, some others wonder if the patient had been taking medicine behind her partner’s back and accused her of “trapping” him in their relationship by getting pregnant when he didn’t want to have a kid with her.
Natalie responded to one of the comments in a follow-up video. First, she clarified that it takes two people to conceive a child, so there’s no way to truly trap someone into having a baby, as long as it’s consensual.
But, she acknowledged that she had seen situations where it seemed the patient’s partner didn’t agree to having a child.
Still, Natalie felt it was inappropriate for the patient’s partner to make that comment in front of her and instead believes it’s a conversation they could have had on their own.
The technician also clarified that the enlarged ovaries could be due to other factors, like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
She doesn’t believe the patient’s ovaries looked like PCOS ovaries. There are other reasons for plump ovaries that Natalie didn’t go into, but she concluded that the patient should have brought a family member or friend who would be excited for her to the appointment, rather than her unenthusiastic partner.
