This woman has a 21-year-old husband, and his family is falling apart right now while she’s left wondering how they will ever recover from a secret that just came out.

It was at the end of last year that everyone figured out that her husband’s 55-year-old mom had cheated on her husband…but nobody knew the identity of her affair partner.

The friend group she shares with her husband had some guesses, but no evidence to back it up. Well, this week, her mother-in-law finally revealed to her husband who she cheated with.

Her mother-in-law told her husband over the phone that she had slept with his best friend, who is 19 at the moment, though he had just turned 18 when the affair went down.

“She’s known this kid since he was around 10-years-old. According to her, he ‘came onto her,’ and he was ‘the aggressor.’ But she conveniently left out the part where she continued hanging out with him, getting drunk with him, calling him, texting him, and maintaining a relationship with him afterward.”

“Cheating is a mutual act. You don’t accidentally continue contacting someone over and over again. My husband asked her, ‘Was he drunk?’ Her response? ‘No, but that’s what the story is gonna be.'”

There was silence between her mother-in-law and her husband before her husband told her mother-in-law not to speak to him and hung up the phone.

What she finds even stranger is that this kid joined the military a couple of months ago, and then her mother-in-law began asking everyone nonstop if anyone had heard from him.

Her mother-in-law did finally tell her own husband who her affair partner was, and he miraculously chose to forgive her despite making comments previously about how he wouldn’t stand for such a thing.

“Now my husband’s ex-best friend’s family is reaching out to him telling him he’d better not tell anybody. Which is wild to me because we’re talking about HIS MOTHER and HIS BEST FRIEND,” she added.

“Meanwhile, his dad keeps saying, ‘You need to forgive your mother because I did,’ and, ‘People make mistakes. They were drunk.’ Except…according to his mother, they weren’t drunk.”

“His dad says he chooses to believe and trust his wife, despite the fact that she cheated on him with someone who had literally just turned 18. And I think that she wouldn’t have said she ‘cheated’ if he ‘came onto her.’ If that was the case, we’d have a totally different situation.”

She understands that 18 makes you a legal adult, but her mother-in-law managed to cheat with a kid her son grew up with. This is a kid she knew for close to a decade, who was largely a kid for the entire time that she interacted with him leading up to their little romance.

She just doesn’t see how her mother-in-law did such a thing, blamed this kid as the instigator to absolve herself of anything, and then thought her whole family would just move on.

She believes her father-in-law isn’t going to leave her mother-in-law because this is easily his third or fourth wife, and they have five kids with one another. She can see he’s not down to start his life all over again at his age.
“But I cannot imagine looking at my spouse the same way after finding out they cheated with someone young enough to be their child,” she said.

“And I can’t help but wonder: does this guy even know she’s telling people that he’s ‘the aggressor?’ Because if I were him, I’d want to know. At this point, I’m just exhausted.”

“Every week it’s some new family drama, and I’m tired of everyone pretending this isn’t as disturbing as it is. Am I crazy for thinking this is divorce-worthy, or has everyone around us completely lost their minds? This wasn’t some random 18-year-old she met at a bar. This was one of her son’s closest friends.”

She does view her husband’s friend as responsible for what he did, but her mother-in-law should have known better, given her decades of life experience, whereas her husband’s friend did not.

She is really upset that her mother-in-law expects everyone in the family to be burdened with protecting her reputation at all costs.

She doesn’t think her mother-in-law deserves that, because she didn’t try to protect her family’s feelings or security when she made the decision she did to pursue this kid.

Her husband is really struggling in light of what happened with his best friend and his mom, and it’s breaking her heart. And with her in-laws pushing her husband towards forgiveness, it’s making it worse.

She doubts her husband and her mother-in-law will ever have a decent bond again.

“At this point, it feels like we’re the only people acknowledging how insane this situation actually is. A 54-55-year-old woman cheated on her husband with her son’s freshly-18-year-old best friend, admitted that the ‘drunk’ story isn’t true, continues to minimize her role in it, and somehow we’re all supposed to sit around at Thanksgiving pretending everything is normal,” she continued.

“I don’t think I can do that.”

What advice do you have for her?
