Anyone who has spent more than five minutes on a dating app knows the struggle. Swiping on someone is like taking a gamble. You never know if you’ll land a charming, thoughtful guy or lose out with a weird, impolite man-child.

TikToker Emily (@emilyanneoliveira) realized what she had scored during a dinner date, and trust me, it wasn’t anything good.

She matched with a guy named Joe and met up with him at a restaurant in New York City’s East Village. When she arrived, he was already seated at a table.

She went up to greet him and saw that his eyes were visibly red and bloodshot. It quickly became clear that he was inebriated before the date had even started.

“I just do think when you’re going on a date with somebody, especially a first date, I feel like you should be on the same level of sobriety,” said Emily.

“Like, if we’re going to drink, we’ll drink together. But I feel like it should be a journey we take together.”

Anyway, he ended up ordering a salmon dish with vegetables. When his food arrived, he started picking the vegetables off his plate. He stated that he didn’t like vegetables.

Throughout the date, he kept craning his neck to look at something out of the restaurant window. Emily finally asked him what he was looking at.

He told her that he had driven to the restaurant, which she thought was an interesting choice because most people in NYC have alternative methods of transportation.

Not only did he drive, but his car was also double-parked, so he was just checking on it periodically to make sure it hadn’t been ticketed or towed.

As if that weren’t enough, he didn’t seem to be interested in sharing more information about himself. Emily tried to make conversation during dinner, but her attempts failed.

For example, in his dating profile, he claimed to be a concierge. When she asked him to elaborate on his job, he rudely shushed her.

Then, he asked her how he could get her to trust him, which is a super weird question to ask someone in general, much less on a first date.

She responded that trust takes time to build and that women are always a little apprehensive about strange men. He was totally dismissive of her perspective and declared that what she had said wasn’t true at all.

By the end of the meal, Emily knew there wouldn’t be a second date. Finally, the date wrapped up. He offered to give her a ride back home, and she agreed because she didn’t want to take the subway.

Looking back, that may not have been the best decision, given all the red flags she had already witnessed, but luckily, she made it home without a scratch.
