A few weeks ago, TikToker Gia Rodriguez (@giathemillenial) went out with a 42-year-old guy, who ended up ditching her during their date. He had been very funny over text, and it had taken them a while to actually go on a date because they were both busy.

Finally, they met up at a restaurant near her place. He picked the spot and planned the whole date, which was a great sign. But when she arrived, his tone and demeanor were different. He wasn’t as humorous, and he just didn’t seem interested.

“It’s fine because that’s what dating is for, right?” Gia pointed out.

“People decide if they’re interested in you or not, and there’s like a million reasons why somebody might not be interested in you, so I don’t find it a reason to get offended. I know some people do, but it’s fine. You can’t be everybody’s cup of tea.”

So, they continued going through the motions of the date. He was still kind and polite. When the bill came, he paid for everything. She expected that they would part ways after this, but he shocked her by suggesting that they go somewhere else for drinks.

She could tell that there wasn’t any chemistry between them, but she took him up on the offer to be friendly.

She told him to follow her to a dive bar about seven or eight minutes from the restaurant. She headed out to the parking garage first and waited approximately five minutes for him to show up. But no one came into the parking garage, so she texted him.

After waiting for two minutes, she did not receive a response, so she left. When she was about 10 minutes away from home, he texted her, saying that he had gone home.

“Now, I find this strange because you’re the one who suggested that we go do something else instead of just telling me goodnight and then going home,” said Gia.

“But I’m not really one to make a scene or to make a big mess out of something, so all I said was that was weird, have a goodnight, and thank you for dinner. End of story, all done.”

However, 30 minutes later, she received another text from him. He felt that she had misrepresented herself. When she asked why he felt that way, he explained that her dating profile stated she was 38, but she was actually 40. Then, he said that the pictures on her profile seemed old.

Her account is linked to her Facebook, and she never got around to updating her age. She also had an ongoing joke with her friends about being in their thirties forever.

She wasn’t trying to hide her age at all. She also sent her pictures to her friends, and they told her that she looked exactly the same in person, so she wasn’t sure what that guy was talking about.

“I’ve also asked a couple of my male friends about this scenario, and they were thoroughly confused, so I just couldn’t figure it out,” said Gia. “I don’t know what his thought process was.”
