When TikToker Kaycee (@kaycee_not_anthony) was nine years old and in the third grade, she, her mom, and her sister decided to have a girls’ night. Her brother wasn’t home, and her dad was sleeping in his bedroom. No one was upstairs.
They were enjoying watching movies together when they suddenly heard a loud bang. At first, they thought it was the sound of a car door slamming. They looked out the living room window, but there was no car outside.
Just then, they heard heavy footsteps walking around upstairs. There was no question about it: someone had broken into the house. Kaycee ran into her parents’ bedroom to wake her dad up.
The bedroom directly above her parents’ bedroom was the most haunted room in the house. It was her sister’s old bedroom, and Kaycee even stayed in it for a few years before she moved out. The vent systems in the house allowed them to hear pretty well into different rooms.
“But you can’t make out what someone is saying, it’s very muffled,” Kaycee explained. “So, we can hear a man and a woman legitimately whispering back and forth to each other.”
Her dad went to check things out and call the police. He told the girls to lock themselves in the room. Kaycee’s mom and sister opened the bedroom window and hid her under the bed.
They told her that if something happened, she needed to escape out the window and run to the neighbor’s house to ask for help.
The seconds crawled by. The house felt impossibly still. The girls held their breath and waited. Finally, Kaycee’s dad returned to report back to them.
He looked shaken and confused. He had checked every room and possible hiding spot in the house, but nobody was there. Every single window and door was locked.

The house showed no sign of a break-in. It was as if those whispered voices and solid footsteps had come from nowhere and vanished just as quickly.
“I literally thought we were going to die,” Kaycee recalled.
“I thought someone broke in. I thought they were going to harm us. I thought they were going to hurt us, like it was absolutely petrifying and terrifying, and there was no explanation for it. And I think it’s even scarier when you have so many people experience the same thing.”
To this day, her family has no logical explanation for what happened that night. The only answer was ghosts. The eeriest part is that her parents still live in the house.
After all these years, they must’ve grown used to the strange creaks, cold drafts, and the echoing whispers of disembodied voices. It just goes to show that sometimes, the scariest sounds in the dark aren’t part of your imagination.
