There are many reasons why someone might turn down a proposal. Maybe it was bad timing or questionable motives.
Recently, a post on Threads has skyrocketed into popularity after one woman explained why she turned down her boyfriend’s proposal.
According to the woman, who is named Priscilla (@prissyxoxo25), she rejected him because the ring he used to propose to her with was proof that he did not listen to her.
The discourse started when Priscilla posted images of the engagement ring and screenshots of her text conversation with her boyfriend. The first message revealed that he had been planning the public proposal for over a year, so when she told him no, it really “crushed” him.
She replied with, “It’s not even about embarrassing you, it’s about you not listening.” Apparently, she had described her dream ring to him multiple times, yet he still dropped the ball.
He argued that he had spent $898 on the ring, which was from Walmart, and that he had put a lot of effort into the proposal, regardless of where he bought the ring.
However, Priscilla stated that the problem was not the price of the ring or where it was from. She did not believe that he had put any real effort into the purchase because it didn’t look anything at all like the ring she wanted.
The issue here was his failure to listen, and she wants “to feel chosen, not just proposed to.”
She asked her followers what they thought about the whole situation, and they did not hold back. Many agreed that she had made the right call.

“I’m sorry, but my promise ring alone is $1,000, and it was exactly what I wanted. A gold ring with diamonds wrapped all around. It’s not about the price, so I get it. A man who truly listens is the kind of man who’ll do exactly what you said and put in the work,” commented one Threads user.
“It’s not about the ring. It’s about her stating her needs and him dismissing them. That’s a deeper issue than a Walmart ring. I’m on her side,” wrote another.
“Clearly, she showed him a style that she liked already. If the ring were her style of choice, she would have said yes. This has nothing to do with it coming from Walmart. She’s not wrong for saying no and breaking it off,” chimed in a third.
Love may be about compromise, but a proposal is supposed to reflect love, intention, and a deep understanding of your partner. Overall, Priscilla felt that she deserved more than someone who doesn’t pay attention to the details that matter.
She did not just reject the ring—she was rejecting a future where her wants would always be an afterthought. Her story is a reminder that listening is a love language, too.
