Most people take a long lunch at work. TikToker @kevonstagetiktok took a spontaneous trip to Mount Rainier in a tie. In a now-viral video, he openly admits that his former bank job was probably justified in firing him after he ditched work to visit a natural landmark.

“My old job at the bank was absolutely right to fire me because I went to Mount Rainier one day during work in bank clothes,” he said.

“You can see me in my slacks, shirt, and tie.”

That day, he went to a client’s house to get some life insurance policy documents signed. The client lived about 45 minutes away from the bank.

Once he was done at the house, he decided to go to Mount Rainier instead of returning to the bank like a responsible employee. The mountain was an hour and 15 minutes away. He had never been so close.

Temptation won out. So, he went to the mountain, took some pictures, sipped on hot chocolate, and spent the rest of the day soaking in the views. When he finally got back to the bank, his manager remarked on how long he had taken.

He said that the client hadn’t been ready, and he ended up staying at her house because she offered him tea. He claimed he didn’t want to lose the sale because it was a good policy. The excuse seemed to work at the time.

However, he posted pictures of himself at Mount Rainier that weekend, and in the photos, he was clearly wearing the same clothes he had worn to work, so he got busted.

Still, he stands by his decision, as it has given him pure, lasting joy and valuable memories.

“But you know what? I wouldn’t regret it because Mount Rainier is majestic and you’ve got to go majestic over job,” he concluded.

In the comments section, many TikTok users shared their own stories involving work detours. Sometimes, you just have to exercise your free will and follow your instincts, even if it might cost you a job. If you’re going to get fired, it should be for something majestic anyway.

“This is today’s equivalent of running errands while working because it’s remote,” pointed out one user.

“I went to town the other day to get my haircut and somehow ended up on a trail in the forest. Washington state is witchy like that,” commented another.

“I went to Disney for nine days and didn’t tell anyone. Took a Teams call while riding Space Mountain. No one knows to this day,” wrote a third.

“One time I went to the Grand Canyon in the company vehicle as a side trip while driving from Arizona to Texas for work,” added someone else.

I went to Mt. Rainier during a work day. They absolutely should have fired me from the bank.
