For most parents, getting a call from their child’s school is never a great sign. But sometimes, it’s more than just a bad day or a minor incident during recess. Some parents are forced to make impossible decisions when it comes to their child.
Recently, TikToker @cool_daddy_talks had to admit his son to a psychiatric hospital for the fourth time in nine months. In the latest incident, he received a call from his son’s school, informing him that he was out of control.
His son had reportedly left the classroom, gone out into the hallway, and hit an adult he didn’t even know. Back in the classroom, he started throwing chairs around.
His behavior wasn’t just disruptive. It was a danger to the other students and staff there.
The school asked TikToker @cool_daddy_talks if he wanted a mobile assessment to evaluate his son. He said yes, but was told it would take hours before it could be arranged, so he asked for his son to be transported to the hospital instead.
After his son was transported to the hospital and underwent an assessment, it was determined that he needed inpatient services. But that process wasn’t simple.
TikToker @cool_daddy_talks mentioned that his son was discharged early from his last visit to the psych hospital. He described the hospital as overwhelmed, struggling to find available beds. It wasn’t their first time navigating the system.
“When he was discharged early, I knew it was going to be a matter of time, and the hospital was just a disaster zone,” he said.
“They couldn’t find a bed. I spent the night at the hospital. They finally got a bed at noon today, and that’s when he got transported.”

His story struck a chord with other parents in the comment section. Many of them shared their own experiences with childhood mental health challenges.
“As someone dealing with a child with mental health issues, we finally did a psych genetic test, which looks at different medicines and how he reacts to them. Come to find out, the doctors had been giving him medication in the red zone from his genetic results. He’s now working to be on green zone medication, and he’s been getting better as it builds up in his system,” commented one parent.
“My son has PANDAS. He was not in his right mind as a kindergartener. I took him to the doctor and told them to test him for anything that causes behavior changes—lo and behold, it was strep. Please, please just have strep levels tested in his blood,” chimed in another.
“I had to admit my oldest son twice between 10th and 11th grade. It’s not easy. He was finally diagnosed with bipolar 2 with psychosis and rage. He’s 25 now. Do everything you can as a parent now because when they become adults, it’s 100 times harder!” exclaimed a third.
