There truly are consequences for every one of our actions. So if you ended up sleeping with the married man who hired you and lost your job after revealing what happened to his wife, would you be surprised?

This 20-year-old woman babysits for a family, and she got the job a couple of months ago. The married dad of the family always came across as a respectable man to her, and she never felt uneasy around him.

One day, while the mom wasn’t home, the dad asked her to help him organize his home office, and it was just the two of them in there.

As she was getting down to work, the dad pounced on her and began kissing her out of nowhere. She tried to pull back, but he kept on going and said she shouldn’t stop him.

She was so overwhelmed in the moment, and then when he announced that he loved her, she says she was naive enough to go along with it all. They ended up sleeping together.

After the encounter was over, she was instantly flooded with regret. She knows she should have said no and stopped what happened that day, but she didn’t.

She ended up telling this guy’s wife about their hook-up, and she got accused of throwing herself at him! The wife then revealed to her that her husband had said she made him uncomfortable and had made the first move.

“She defended her husband,…shamed me, and even told my best friend, who worked previously for them as a nanny too. I apologized to her and told her I’ll never do it again, but she kept saying the meanest things to me, which I understand because what I did was horribly wrong,” she explained.

“I do feel a little less guilty after telling her. It shocked me that she defended her husband and said that men are like animals, and it was my fault that I let him [sleep] with me, that I threw myself on him (which I swear did not happen), and she even threatened to press charges, but at least she now knows.”

“I still feel bad, and the depression hasn’t gotten any better; it only worsened. I hope I did the right thing by telling her, and I hope the guilt gets better.”

She has been applying for other babysitting jobs since this went down, but she cannot find another job, and she suspects this is the wife punishing her by telling other families not to hire her because of what she did.

She’s completely broke and really needed that job. She’s considering reaching out to the wife and pleaded with her to hire her back.

Her mom is under the impression she still has that babysitting job, and she doesn’t have the heart to tell her that she got fired, let alone why. She is worried that the wife will reach out to her mom anyway and spill the beans.

“I just turned 20 last week, but I already feel that it’s the end. I don’t know what to do anymore….I’ve been babysitting for 5 years, but I don’t know if I should change [my] career path,” she continued.

“I have no other experiences, no college degree, no nothing, I don’t know anyone besides my family and a few friends, I don’t have any local connections due to being a foreigner. I messed up really badly, and I don’t know what to do. I can’t even afford therapy.”

Well, I think she needs to look at this as a valuable life lesson. As difficult as it was, she did do the right thing, telling the wife about the hook-up, even though she’s just as blameworthy as the husband.

She unquestionably should not beg the wife for her job back, because that’s an insane ask and just a selfish thing to do, but she can consider other options, like daycare programs that might be able to employ her.

I definitely think the wife got her blacklisted from other nanny jobs in the area, and for good reason, since she can’t be trusted around married men (sorry).

What advice do you have for her?
