33 Years Ago She Was Stabbed Walking Home From Campus And Her Killer Has Just Been Charged But It Turns Out He Was At The Scene Of A Second Girl’s Murder A Year Later
Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was June 22nd, 1988, when 21-year-old University of New Mexico student Althea Oakley was on campus spending time with her boyfriend at a frat house party.
Althea ended up leaving the party alone that night and decided that she was going home.
“Oakeley got upset and left on foot through the campus, heading south toward her residence that she shared with her brother,” the Albuquerque Police Department said in a statement.
“According to witnesses, Oakeley was heard screaming, and she was found stabbed outside a home at 1320 Buena Vista Drive S.E. Oakeley died from her wounds.”
After Althea’s murder, the Albuquerque Police Department tried to track down her killer with no luck. There simply were not any suspects they could identify at the time.
It wasn’t until a man by the name of Paul Apodaca was arrested on July 20th of this year that authorities had any insight into who had brutally ended Althea’s life.
Paul ended up being arrested for “violating his probation” and he revealed to officers that he had been the person to commit multiple murders during the 1980s through 1990s.

Althea sadly was one of his victims, and detectives are working to now piece together the information Paul gave them about the rest of his victims.

“Detectives are attempting to corroborate details provided by Apodaca about each crime, and verify whether any of those details were available to the public since the crimes occurred,” the Albuquerque Police Department explained.
After it was announced that Paul was charged in connection with Althea’s murder, Albuquerque Chief of Police Harold Medina revealed that his arrest was meaningful to him since he actually knew Althea and he knew her family.
“I was only a teenager at the time, but I remember the impact her death had on our community,” Chief Medina said.
“More than anything, I hope this arrest provides some closure for Althea’s parents and her brother. I will always think about them as we work to bring justice for victims of crime.”
As detectives work to bring more charges against Paul, a woman named Kerry Arquette took to Facebook to share that he confessed to murdering her sister.
Just one year after Paul murdered Althea, he ended up on the scene of 18-year-old Kaitlyn Arquette’s murder in Albuquerque, according to Kaitlyn’s sister Kerry.

“After more than 30 years somebody has confessed to my sister’s murder,” Kerry Arquette wrote in a Facebook post.
“Kaitlyn Arquette (age 18) was shot to death while driving her car in Albuquerque, NM.”
“Mother, Daddy, our private investigator Pat Caristo, and others have spent their lives trying to solve this case.”
“Mother, (also known as the author Lois Duncan) wrote WHO KILLED MY DAUGHTER in an effort to generate leads. Mother died in 2016.”
“The man who confessed to the murder was actually at the scene of the crime when police pulled up to Kait’s car and was allowed to simply walk away.”
