In the 1990s, TikToker Pattie (@duchessofdecorum) submitted her worst first date story to a magazine contest and ended up winning the contest.
At the time, she was attending law school in Chicago. She made a friend in law school whose husband was a surgeon. They set her up with one of his colleagues. He was tall, dark, and handsome, well-traveled, educated, and came from a good family.
So, the guy called her, and they had a great conversation over the phone. They planned a date, and when the time came for the date, he picked her up from her apartment building.
He pulled up in a fancy car. He was gorgeous, charming, and friendly. Pattie was immediately starstruck.
He took her to dinner at a nice restaurant that overlooked the lake. They finished dinner at around 9:30 p.m. Overall, dinner was amazing.
The only weird thing she noted was that he kept talking about his mother and how much he loved her. At the end of the date, he told her that he wanted her to meet his mother.
She agreed, so they proceeded to get into his car and drive 20 minutes out of the city. As time passed, she started to realize that she had put herself in a very bad situation. They were in the middle of nowhere, and she had no idea where they were.
Finally, they got off an exit ramp, and she started seeing a bunch of mansions in a gated community. They turned into a driveway with a huge fountain.
They got out of the car and were greeted by a butler. Pattie’s date announced that he wanted to introduce her to his mother. The butler gave Pattie a strange look and walked away. Pattie assumed that he was going to fetch her date’s mother.

Pattie’s date led her out to the backyard. It was pitch-black outside. After walking for quite some time, they reached a tombstone. Apparently, his mother was buried in the backyard.
Pattie realized this man was a little crazy. There was also no way for her to escape, so her only option was to play along.
“So, I was talking to her; I was having a full-blown conversation with this woman, and he would be telling me what she’s saying,” said Pattie. “I’m having this conversation for 10 to 15 minutes, and then finally, I’m like, it’s getting late…so I say goodbye to her.”
While he was driving her back home, she held her keys in between her fingers as a weapon in case he attacked her. When they arrived at her building, she told him that she never wanted to hear from him again. She threatened to call the police if he ever contacted her again. Fortunately, he never did.
“The moral of the story is don’t ever date surgeons,” Pattie concluded. “Surgeons are the craziest human beings on the planet. They all have a god complex.”
“They’re all messed up in the head in some way, shape, or form. Don’t ever date a surgeon, and always pay attention to your gut because my gut was telling me there’s something weird going on, and I didn’t listen to it. Luckily, I made it out alive.”
