A 24-year-old man is dating his girlfriend, who is the same age as he is, and they have been with one another for close to 8 years.

They started dating when they were just 16, and they’ve had a solid relationship since then. Now, he has known for some time that his girlfriend really does want him to propose to her.

He felt that they were in a great place financially and ready to progress in their relationship, so he took his girlfriend shopping for an engagement ring to get a feel for her style.

“We landed on a nice halo-type ring,” he explained. “Awesome. She did say to me after going not to get a ring yet because she wasn’t ready.”

“I took these words and assumed she meant “go get a ring whenever but I don’t want to know about it because I want a surprise.”

“I know she has been ready to be engaged for years, so why would it change now after we went ring shopping?”

After they went ring shopping, he placed an order for a halo-ring that was just like what his girlfriend really liked.

The ring would arrive in 4 weeks, and he spent the highest part of his budget on this ring. He previously had talked about the ring budget with his girlfriend, so he was positive she was going to love this ring.

In the weeks where he waited for the ring to arrive, his girlfriend’s friend got engaged during that time.

His girlfriend’s friend’s engagement ring features an enormous solitaire diamond, and as soon as his girlfriend saw the ring she knew she wanted that one.

Luckily, the jewelry store agreed to let him exchange the halo ring he had already ordered for a solitaire ring, but he had to keep the diamond the exact same size as the original ring.

He was fine with that minor detail, as he was comfortable that the size of the diamond was great and his girlfriend would be happy with it.

A few weeks after he orders the second ring, he’s in the car with his girlfriend and has his Bluetooth connected when all of a sudden a voicemail starts playing from the jeweler.

The jeweler said in their voicemail that his ring was ready, and right there in the car, the surprise proposal for his girlfriend was ruined.

As soon as his girlfriend found out that he ordered her an engagement ring, she bombarded him with questions about the ring.

He attempted to not reply so he could somewhat keep it a surprise, but his girlfriend continued to hound him.

“Eventually she pulled out her friend’s photo and asked if it was that big, which I replied that a ring of that size would be about 1.5x my budget and left it like that,” he said.

“After that, she pretty much told me if the diamond wasn’t that size she would not be happy.”

Well, he has since picked the ring up from the jewelry store and he has no idea what he should do with it.

He really does want to propose to his girlfriend, but she already made it clear she hates the ring he bought.

What should he do?
