She Shared Her Conversation Starters For A First Date With TikTok

The dating world, in general, can be exhausting. We put so much effort into meeting people, going out, downloading dating apps, etc., all in hopes of finding “the one.”

First dates especially can be grueling. Sometimes it can be extremely difficult to keep up a conversation with someone you barely know.

Thankfully, there are a lot of content creators giving their best tips and tricks for dating.

Billie Rae Brandt (@billieraebrandt) on TikTok has made a ton of videos with great dating advice that’s easy to follow.

Billie’s content is especially unique as she creates a lot of videos with dating tips for men from a woman’s perspective.

Although many of her videos are directed toward straight men, anyone can follow along with them, especially her great video on starting an engaging conversation on a first date.

“Sometimes the most stressful part [of dating] is coming up with things to talk about,” says Billie Rae.

“No need to fear, Billie Rae is here.”

Billie Rae breaks up her favorite and clever conversation starters into three different categories. The first one is, ‘Questions that ask for her input.’

Questions like, “Have you been here before?” “What would you recommend?” and “What do you think about this part of town?” are all great ways to get to know someone because they require their opinions and input.

The second category is ‘People watch.’

“I think it’s always a great way to break the ice on a first date,” Billie Rae points out. “It shifts the tension and focus away from your date while getting a good laugh.”

Observations and questions like, “That’s an odd couple,” or “Do you think they’re on a first date?”  can help loosen things up by focusing on the environment around you versus yourselves.

Plus, people watching can be so fun!

The final category of questions is, ‘Questions to help you know more about her.’

The key with this category is to avoid the same boring and basic small-talk questions that are so often asked on a first date. Instead of immediately asking what they do for work or what they like to do in their spare time, mix it up.

Billie Rae encourages asking questions about what they’re most proud of, where they’d like to travel to one day, or their favorite/least favorite kinds of food. She explains how these questions are more light-hearted and can easily transition into an entirely new conversation.

Another excellent tip Billie Rae mentions is to avoid a persistent ‘drilling’ of questions during the date, to try and allow a conversation to flow naturally. This helps to prevent the date from feeling more like an interrogation!

If you’re in the dating scene and have a first date coming up, try following these tips, and you should be just fine.
