She told him no and didn’t say anything else about who would be taking her to dinner. But then, she started dropping hints about someone coming to visit her later in the month. The man knew she wasn’t talking about one of her friends.
Frustrated and annoyed by his ex’s shady behavior, he started messing around on his phone. She began doing the same. After five minutes of them both on their phones, she made a weird comment.
“I was going to say something mean but decided not to,” she said.
The man responded with, “Then don’t say it.”
They began to argue, and his ex mentioned how she noticed him acting weird after telling him about her future date plans. He told her he was annoyed and didn’t want to engage with her mean behavior.
“I don’t know how to talk with her past this point,” he continued.
He got up from the table and left the restaurant. After she met up with him back at their home, he apologized.
His ex didn’t quite accept the apology, telling him that it was one of the worst things he had done to her and that he needed to “let her go.”
“In my mind, this means that she doesn’t see us ever being in a relationship again,” he added.
The man is still feeling guilty over how he reacted during the dinner, and his ex still has not apologized for the things she said.
Perhaps this dinner shouldn’t have happened in the first place!
