While Trying On Her Prom Dress To Be Altered, She Suffered From A Severe Concussion

A mother is pleading for help from friends and kind strangers after her teenage daughter experienced a scary fall that has changed her life.

Melissa Teel-Hartman is the mother of Paige, a 15-year-old high school student. Melissa and Paige have been put through the wringer after Paige had a tragic accident this past March.

While getting dress alterations at a shop ahead of her Freshman year prom, Paige had a spontaneous and unexpected bought of low blood sugar. Moments into the alterations, she ended up fainting.

As Paige went down, she hit her head on the back of a curio cabinet and the corner of a brick wall, before finally landing on a hardwood floor.

Still wearing her prom dress, she was placed on a backboard and in a neck brace before being rushed to the emergency room.

Paige is stable and out of the hospital and living at home 24/7 with Melissa, who takes care of her full time.

Although she is in the comfort of her own home, Paige’s fall was only the horrific beginning of a lengthy healing process.

The symptoms Paige has been experiencing are brutal. They include painful headaches, neck and back pain, extreme fatigue, insomnia, as well as depression, and anxiety.

That is only a partial list of the issues she is dealing with. Paige has been taking fourteen different medications to help with her symptoms.

After spending time under the care of a concussion specialist, it has been suggested that Paige continue intensive therapy with a chiropractic neurologist.

It would be a wonderful opportunity to get Paige the proper treatment she needs, but it is certainly costly.

The trip to the treatment facility involves more medical bills as well as lodging for the family since it is not near their home.

Melissa candidly opened up about her struggles with Paige’s father who seems to be somewhat absent and has made no offers to help pay for the expenses.

“It’s a lot to carry alone, and I am not good at asking for help,” wrote Melissa on a GoFundMe page she made for her daughter.

“So, if you can find it in your heart to give us a bit of assistance as we navigate this unknown journey, we would greatly appreciate it.”

In the meantime, Paige continues to have good days and bad days. For example, Melissa said that Paige’s boyfriend actually broke up with her a few weeks after her accident.

But on one of her good days, Paige was able to attend her prom for a little while, wearing earplugs and using other modifications for the evening.

“All I want is for my baby girl to get back the quality of life she deserves to have,” explained Melissa.

“She should be out there enjoying her summer with friends, exploring the world around her with excitement, and basking in creative energies about her future. Not this.”
