Most people look back on elementary school with fond memories of family vacations and birthday parties, but every once in a while, a child comes along with this idea of “normal” that is actually anything but.
When TikToker Jesse Bagley (@jbagley_) was in the first grade, she realized that she was not living a normal childhood. The revelation came after she shared with her class about what she had done over the weekend.
Like all her other classmates, she was eager to share what she thought was an exciting experience and enthusiastically raised her hand.
Finally, the teacher called on her, and she launched into a detailed account of her latest family drama. She proceeded to tell the whole class that her dad’s mistress, who became his wife, found his pager and saw that he was messaging another woman.
They were both unclothed at the time. Then, they started fist-fighting upstairs without their clothes on, but Jesse’s dad tried to run, so the fight moved downstairs.
Jesse’s stepsister jumped in and started beating up her dad as well. Jesse was standing off to the side, cheering on the women.
“Mind you, this is the man who cheated on my beautiful, sweet mom,” said Jesse. “I had beef with him. If he thought I was going to be on his team, he was sadly mistaken. Anywho, the cops get involved because that’s just what happens when these things ensue.”
Jesse got to ride in the police car, which she thought was super fun and cool. By the end of her story, her teacher was horrified and concerned, and the classroom was completely silent.
In the comments section, many TikTok users shared their own childhood memories of growing up in situations they believed were perfectly normal until they got older.

“Between first and fourth grade, my dad owned a bar, and for visitation, he would pick me up and bring me to the bar while it was closed on Sunday so he could sleep off the night before in his little bar apartment while I was in the bar the whole time, making myself Dr. Peppers from the tap, playing pool and songs on the jukebox all day. When he woke up, he would take me to McDonald’s so he could say we spent time together, and then back to my mom’s house. Back then, I thought it was cool, but now I’m like what?” wrote one user.
“When they told us drugs were bad, knowing damn well I watched my dad pass a joint around with his friends while I was sitting on his lap that weekend,” commented another.
“When we went to find my dad at the bar, and he was outside with another woman, so my mom ran him over,” added a third.
