He Landed A Job Straight Out Of Below Deck Paying $150,000, But When He Turned It Down His Wife Cried
A 47-year-old man has been married to his 46-year-old wife named Mary for 12 years, and they have 4 kids together.
He works as a marine engineer, so that means he has to work away at sea for most of the year and he’s rarely at home.
When he originally met Mary, he was sailing for 16 weeks straight, and then he would have an 8-week break to be home.
Mary worked a full-time job as well, but after they welcomed their third child, Mary switched to working part-time for a bit.
Then, they had their fourth child together, and it wasn’t possible for Mary to keep working at all on top of taking care of their kids and house.
Mary was upset to have to give up her job, as she loved it, and she also enjoyed making her own money.
In an effort to help out more at home and with the kids, he was able to work on a different boat and work 5 weeks at sea while staying home for 5 weeks.
Having to switch jobs, coupled with Mary no longer working, meant that this couple fell into hard times financially.
Additionally, he’s been unhappy with the job that he has had for multiple years, and he felt that he was not able to move up.

Then, he was shocked to get a job offer that was something straight out of Bravo’s hit show Below Deck.
“So this week, I get surprised with a job opportunity (150K and a signing bonus) on a private super yacht,” he explained.
“The schedule is 10-10 and a lifestyle most people will only ever see on TV. Celebrities, sailing the most exclusive coastlines in the entire world, and luxury beyond imagination.”
Initially, Mary was unsure about this opportunity, but he told her it was going to be amazing for all of them, and then she changed her tune.
Mary was thrilled, and she helped him prep for the interview. She also helped him with his resume, and she definitely help him land the job in the end.
“This opportunity means paying off all our debt at once, buying a house, and promoting into a position I have wanted for a long time,” he said.
“After thinking it over, though, I didn’t feel like doing it. I don’t want to go back to 10 weeks away from home, and I just don’t like the idea of yachting.”
Mary did let him know that if he really wanted to turn down such an excellent opportunity, she would support his decision.
Mary wanted him to be happy first and foremost, and he wasn’t positive he could be in this new role, even if it did pay more.
“She also said it was the dumbest thing she ever heard to pass an opportunity like this for our family and maybe give it a try for a few years,” he continued.
“She said she didn’t particularly enjoy diapers. I said that’s not forever, and she answers that I was right; it’s around 18 years, about what I have left till I retire. I said no to the job.”
After he declined to take the job, Mary cried.
He’s left wondering if it was so wrong of him to say no to this job, especially since Mary said she was willing to support whatever choice he made about it.
