Still, Matt was not hearing it and stood his ground. So, the mom felt she had no choice but to discipline her son by taking something he valued away.
She ended up telling Matt that he would be getting an economy seat and that if he really wanted first class, he could pay for the upgrade because his parents would not be paying for it.
After she said that, though, Matt simply nodded along and believed his mom was joking. She was dead serious, though, and for months warned her son that he would not be flying first class with the rest of his family.
Then, on the day of the trip, he apparently looked like a “shocked Pikachu” when he realized she had been telling the truth the entire time. Then, Matt proceeded to throw a full-on tantrum in the middle of the airport and complained that he would be stuck on a ten-hour flight in an uncomfortable seat.
Nonetheless, she did not care. She simply told her son that he had six months to pony up and pay his own way if he wanted extra perks. And since he didn’t, she told Matt to get it together.
Even though the mom felt good about her parenting decision, though, she could tell that Matt was enraged the entire trip.
And despite her and her husband not feeling bad, her parents later said they believed she went too far and ruined the trip for her son. So now, she has been left wondering if taking away the first class ticket was a good parenting move or if she overreacted.
How would you have handled your son’s entitled behavior if he acted this way? Was she too lenient or too harsh? Did Matt deserve to have more taken away?
