This young woman currently shares an apartment with her boyfriend, Evan. Well, she technically rents the apartment and sublets to him.

“But I don’t want to act like I am in charge just because of how the leases worked out,” she clarified.

She also has a best friend named Julia, who she regards as kind of a goody two shoes. More specifically, Julia is apparently a rule follower through and through, even if no one is watching. In turn, she never imagined that her best friend would ever commit a crime.

So, after she received a frantic call from Julia last weekend, she did not know what to think. During the call, all her best friend said was that she was near her apartment.

Then, Julia asked if she could hide something inside her place and claimed that the matter was “urgent.”

And at that moment, she just instantly told Julia, “yes.”

Now, she did know that about a year ago, her best friend’s Vespa scooter had been stolen. Apparently, Julia had accidentally left the key in the ignition, and the vehicle was, unfortunately, swiped.

Anyway, once Julia finally arrived at her apartment last week and opened the door, her suspicions about the “urgent matter” were confirmed– because there Julia was standing beside a Vespa.

Only this scooter did not appear to be the same yellow one that had been stolen from Julia. Instead, her best friend had ridden over on a black Vespa.

Nonetheless, Julia rushed inside and rolled the scooter in with her. And once safe in her apartment, she decided to ask her best friend what the heck was going on.

“My boyfriend also came in and was curious because Julia was sweating like she had run a marathon and was rolling this beat-up scooter in,” she recalled.

Anyway, Julia ended up revealing how while walking around the neighborhood, she had recognized the stolen scooter.

More specifically, there was an open detached garage that Julia peeked inside, and that was when her best friend claimed to have recognized the Vespa.

Even though the vehicle was black, though, Julia explained how the person from her neighborhood who supposedly stole it must have painted over the yellow.

And her best friend only knew this because the thief never bothered to remove the stickers Julia had put on before painting the scooter black.

So, Julia could still see the outlines of the shapes of her stickers underneath the new paint job.

Also, to be clear: her best friend had already gone to the police about the theft after seeing someone riding the scooter in public shortly after it was stolen.

However, she claims that the authorities were “worse than useless” and told Julia that confronting someone about an item that was “worth so little” would be “too much of a liability.”

This ultimately forced Julia to give up the idea of getting justice– at least, in the proper way. Then, after she saw the re-painted scooter sitting in someone’s garage, her best friend decided to take matters into her own hands.

Julia actually ran back home, grabbed the spare key, and then ran back to the detached garage. Thankfully, no one was there, so her best friend was able to slip inside, start up the scooter, and flee.

Just as Julia was leaving, though, someone inside the house reportedly saw what had happened and actually began chasing her best friend on foot.

Hence why she received that frantic call– because Julia was nervous that the person was out in the neighborhood looking for her.

So, after hearing about this whirlwind of a story, she ultimately told Julia that she could keep the scooter at her apartment.

She also offered to give her best friend a change of clothes and a ride home, that way, Julia did not have to risk walking through the neighborhood.

After doing all that and returning back to her apartment, though, she was met by her furious boyfriend.

He claimed that she should have known Julia’s call was about something illegal and was pissed off that by her best friend coming over, they could have attracted trouble to their apartment.

Her boyfriend also pointed out how the person Julia took the Vespa from might have bought the scooter secondhand.

Meaning that, for all that person knows, it might have appeared as though Julia had just walked into their garage and robbed them.

She obviously knew the whole situation by that point, though, and decided to stick her next out for her friend.

She said that she trusted Julia and that it was for sure her best friend’s scooter.

Honestly, though, her boyfriend just did not care. In fact, he called her naive and claimed that she and Julia could not act like vigilantes and pretend that what Julia did was normal. He just was not okay or comfortable with that.

So, she has been left feeling pretty conflicted about the entire situation.

“I’m the sort of friend who will have my friends back one hundred percent, no questions asked,” she said.

At the same time, though, her boyfriend is beyond pissed off that she “so readily” allowed Julia to hide an item at their place without even asking what it was.

In turn, she has been left wondering if allowing her best friend to hide the Vespa inside her apartment actually makes her as naive and jerky as her boyfriend believes.

If you received that same call from your best friend, what would you have done? Is what Julia did okay, even if the Vespa was really her stolen scooter? Does her boyfriend have a right to be mad at her, even though she had no way of truly knowing what Julia wanted to hide at their apartment? How would you reconcile this situation?
