She Won’t Let Her Mother-In-Law Watch Her New Baby Since Her Mother-In-Law Neglected Her Husband When He Was Little

One week ago, this woman had a daughter.

Understandably, she and her husband, 28, are thrilled and consumed with their daughter and think that she’s perfect in every way.

As a new mother, she wants to do everything she can to protect her daughter, and she fiercely feels this way.

Unfortunately, her husband’s mother wasn’t a good mother to him or his brother, and she was deeply neglectful.

The neglect began about 26 years ago.

When they were growing up, he and his brother were left at home alone when they were 3 and 4 because their mother would leave to work at the hospital anywhere from 12 to 16 hours.

She’d also leave them at home while she went to the laundromat. When she’d arrive home, the cops would be waiting for her. This happened over and over again.

When her husband and his brother were 6 and 7-years-old, their mother flew out of the country to see her mother.

She left them in the care of their father, who didn’t have a relationship with them and, for more than a year, hadn’t wanted to communicate with them at all.

“In the end, the boys ended up in foster care for over two years (their dad brought them to CPS and dropped them off), and when she did regain custody of them, she once again left them home alone because she started seeing a guy who didn’t want kids and moved in with him,” she said.

For more than five years, her husband and his brother were essentially on their own. Their mother bought groceries for them and made certain that they got to school, but the rest of the time, they were alone in a trailer on their family’s property.

“She tried being a mom again when they were 16 and 17, and my husband has forgiven her, but I don’t trust her regardless,” she explained.

“I would never in a million years trust her to watch my daughter because of what she put her own children through.”

While she acknowledges that all of this happened a long time ago and her mother-in-law does seem to be trying to be better in the present, her mother-in-law still seems to think it wasn’t a mistake to leave her children alone when they were growing up.

“She thinks she didn’t do anything wrong because my husband turned out ‘alright’ (he has severe abandonment issues). Her other son has been in prison since he was 23,” she shared.

Several days ago, her mother-in-law came over to her house and said that she needed to buy a crib to keep in her home so that she had somewhere to lay her granddaughter down.

She questioned why, and her mother-in-law clarified that she needed it for when she was taking care of her granddaughter.

At first, she told her mother-in-law that they wouldn’t need to worry about finding a babysitter for a long time.

But her mother-in-law responded and said that she would eventually have to return to work and added, “‘Daycares can’t be trusted.'”

Without thinking, she said, “‘Neither can you. I wouldn’t let you or a daycare watch my baby.'”

After her comment, there has been tension. The family is upset that she made it clear that she didn’t trust her mother-in-law.

Even though her husband wasn’t angry with her, expressed his disappointment for what she said. While he felt the same way about not allowing his mother to watch their baby, he had hoped she would have pretended that maybe someday they would have let his mother take care of their baby unsupervised, despite the fact that it was never going to happen.

Do you think she was wrong for telling her mother-in-law that she didn’t trust her to babysit?
