She’s Refusing To Help Pay For Her Sister-In-Law’s Medication Even Though She Can Afford It Because Of How Rudely Her Sister-In-Law Spoke To Her

This 35-year-old woman and her husband, who is also 35, do not have children. But, they have high-paying jobs, so they have been living the “DINK” lifestyle (dual-income, no kids).
On the other hand, her 34-year-old brother, Charles, and his wife, Bailey, are both middle school teachers and have three kids. So, their financial situations are quite different.
Anyway, about two months ago, her sister-in-law Bailey randomly asked her if she had done something “different” to her appearance. At the time, she apparently just looked very “glowy” and “refreshed.”
She had done something different, too. More specifically, she began using an acne medication prescribed to her by her dermatologist, and she was very excited about it.
“I joked that it’s like the fountain of youth in a tube. I explained how it’s helped so much with my hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, etc.,” she recalled.
“It’s made a pretty huge difference, in my opinion, and is pretty affordable.”
At that point, Bailey was shocked and also wanted to try out the medication. She encouraged her sister-in-law to do that and highly recommended that Bailey make an appointment with a dermatologist.
Then, just a few days ago, Bailey reached out and claimed she was able to make an appointment and get a prescription after being a bit more frugal with spending. She was excited for her sister-in-law, too, and told Bailey to let her know how everything goes.
Well, Bailey wound up claiming to have not realized just how expensive the medication was. It’s about $140 per tube. So, her sister-in-law asked if she had a spare bottle.

“And Bailey said she was under the impression it was ‘affordable’ and didn’t know what to do,” she added.
She couldn’t help out her sister-in-law, though, and ultimately apologized– saying that she just didn’t have any spare bottles to give away. She also told Bailey to check out online pharmacies to see if they had coupons.
Finally, she apologized to her sister-in-law for claiming it was affordable. After all, she thought it was a good price for her own financial situation, but she didn’t think through her comment before saying it to Bailey.
Bailey just got quiet after she said that, and instead of understanding her mistake, her sister-in-law actually snapped.
“Right, we get it. You guys live like [freaking] millionaires while we are in the trenches,” her sister-in-law responded.
She was totally taken aback by the outburst, and she didn’t say anything back to Bailey. Yet, Bailey kept going off on her– accusing her of being a jerk for not helping out.
She also got told it was her fault for misleading Bailey about the price in the beginning, and Bailey was furious after saving up for weeks just to get that appointment.
While she may have felt a bit bad at first, though, she did not want to sit there and get insulted by her sister-in-law.
So, she told Bailey they could continue the conversation at a later date, and she hung up the phone.
Later on, her sister-in-law did text her an apology. Bailey claimed to have been overwhelmed with the kids and her post-partum body, which is why her sister-in-law took the frustrations out on her.
However, Bailey also asked if she could loan some money for the medication. Her sister-in-law said she would really appreciate the help for the medicine, which she “really needs.”
“Bailey joked we could use it as a tax write-off like other rich people. I didn’t reply to her text,” she revealed.
She also confided in her husband about the situation, and he agreed that Bailey was being ridiculous. They thought her sister-in-law was acting as if she was withholding something crucial, like diabetes medication, instead of something purely cosmetic.
So, her husband agreed that they shouldn’t give Bailey a cent for the meds and claimed they should just ignore her sister-in-law.
But then, her brother reached out and asked if they could just do him this favor. He said that the cost was like pennies to her and her husband. Plus, her brother claimed that he and Bailey had spent weeks saving up for the dermatologist appointment because they thought the medication was going to be affordable.
“But I told him I already apologized for saying it’s affordable, and I don’t appreciate being insulted and given backhanded comments by his wife,” she vented.
That’s why she’s still refusing to help pay for her sister-in-law’s medications. But, since she can afford it, she’s wondering whether that really makes her a jerk or not.
Do you think she’s required to help out her sister-in-law? If you were in her shoes, would you want to help after being spoken to like that?
