She Told Her Parents, Who Are Struggling Financially, That They Didn’t Need To Buy Her Or Her Siblings Anything For Christmas This Year, But Her Sister Freaked Out On Her And Called Her Controlling

According to this woman, her parents are “house-poor.” Yes, they live in a massive home and own a luxury car, but they really can’t afford these luxuries.
Her dad does earn a solid salary, making about $100,000 per year. But, her mom currently works in retail and “barely” makes any money.
“So they can barely get by,” she said.
That’s why she recently told her parents not to buy her or her siblings anything for Christmas this year.
She claimed that her brother’s wife didn’t need anything, either, since she already had a closet full of Louis Vuitton items.
Well, her sister apparently heard her telling their mom not to purchase any Christmas presents and wound up going off on her.
“Speak for yourself,” her sister responded, “I still want a Free People gift card.”
She refused to let that slide, though, and decided to point out that Free People was seriously expensive– telling her sister that their mom and dad didn’t have Free People kind of money.
She also told her sister to “stop being so selfish” and claimed that, since her sister was an adult, her sister could buy it herself.

As you can probably imagine, her sister didn’t take that very well, either. Instead, her sister accused her of being a jerk and claimed that it was none of her business what their parents bought for Christmas.
“And my sister told me to stay in my own lane,” she recalled.
But, for some context, her sister earns a generous living working as an attorney and can afford to buy as much Free People stuff as she wants.
Regardless, her sister freaked out because her mom was already planning on buying a $200 Free People gift card for Christmas.
This pushed her to ask if her sister even felt guilty about asking for presents while knowing that their parents were struggling. Still, her sister just said “no” and claimed to never ask their parents for anything.
“Honestly, you sound controlling and jealous as well. You can’t tell mom and dad what to buy us or what not to buy us. You can only speak for yourself,” her sister added.
And now, with her sister so angry at her, she’s been left wondering if telling her parents not to buy her or her siblings any Christmas gifts this year was really so out of line or not.
Does it sound like she had good intentions? Why do you think her sister values gifts more than their parents’ finances? Do you agree that her sister was being selfish or not?
