In today’s digital age, many people like to remember their departed loved ones by sharing pictures and videos of them on social media.

Usually, people don’t have an issue with that and enjoy seeing old memories pop up. You’d rarely find someone who does have a problem with it.

One woman has been sharing pictures and social media posts related to her late partner, and now his childhood best friend has been trying to get her to stop.

She lost her beloved partner last year due to a tragic overdose.

“My partner was one of the only people I was really close with since I had moved away from my hometown, and I often turned to social media as a way to connect with my good friends who were back at home,” she said.

“When my partner passed away, I began posting pictures, videos, unreleased songs, poems he wrote, etc.. I thought that I was grieving normally [and] trying not to forget his memory.”

Recently, she heard from her partner’s childhood best friend, who told her that posting these old pictures and memories of her partner was insensitive and disrespectful. He told her that since she has a large following of over 1,000 people on Instagram, she shouldn’t be posting those kinds of things publicly for everyone to see.

“He also mentioned that I have plenty of friends I can privately message about this, and posting on my public social media accounts seems attention-seeking,” she recalled.

“I admittedly got defensive at this and told him that posting memories of him for people to see helps me feel like he is still alive and here with us. When he was alive, I always posted about him.”

She also knew that her partner’s family liked it when she shared memories of him online. So, she told the childhood friend she wouldn’t stop, as she saw nothing wrong with it.

Unfortunately, the drama did not stop there.

Her partner’s childhood friend decided to post a picture of her on social media and describe her as an attention seeker. He then instructed his followers to mute her social media accounts. To make matters worse, a few of her partner’s other friends chimed in and agreed that she shouldn’t post his memories as much.

She feels that she hasn’t been doing anything wrong, as it’s been six months since her partner passed, and she mostly posts about him during significant events like his birthday, Valentine’s Day, the holidays, etc.

However, everyone else’s reactions make her question if she’s done something wrong.

“I’ve never dealt with a loss of someone this close before,” she admitted.

“I don’t think I know what is appropriate.”

Was she wrong to post pictures of her late partner, or are his friends being ridiculous?
