This woman and her husband have been married for three years, and ever since they first started dating, they’ve been on the same page about kids.

More specifically, neither of them ever wanted to have children, and, according to her, they were both very happy with their decision.

“However, I always wanted to adopt a dog– multiple dogs, if possible,” she said.

Apparently, her family always had pups while she was growing up, so dogs became a really important part of her life.

Her husband, on the other hand, never owned a dog. Still, he claimed to like the four-legged friends “in general.”

Plus, before they tied the knot, he actually promised her that they could adopt a dog. He just wanted to wait until they were a few years into their marriage to make sure their lives were “settled.”

Now that they have finally reached that point, though, her husband has become “increasingly wary” of following through on his promise and actually adopting a dog.

“He says that the main reason for him not wanting kids is that they are a lot of responsibility and result in severely constrained lifestyles, and the same applies to dogs, too,” she explained.

But quite frankly, she disagrees, and she’s only begun to miss having dogs in her life more as time has gone on.

So, she held onto the hope that she would eventually get her husband to change his mind and get on board with adopting a pup.

“But the more I nudge him in that direction, the more anti-dog he is becoming,” she revealed.

She’s tried suggesting that they start by fostering a dog. That way, they could both get used to adding a dog to their lifestyle.

Still, her husband is not open to that. Instead, he told her to volunteer at a pet shelter, but they don’t live nearby. Not to mention, she doesn’t think that volunteering is the same as actually having a pet dog.

Due to all of this, she is actually considering leaving her husband if she can’t get a pup.

“I cannot imagine going all my life without dogs in my home, and I am starting to think that this is a dealbreaker for me,” she vented.

However, her friends have actually accused her of being “ridiculous.” So now, before she makes any rash decisions and ends her marriage, she’s been left wondering if leaving her husband over this would really be the wrong thing to do.

Can you understand why having a pet is so important to her? At the same time, do you think choosing a pet over a spouse is reasonable or not? What would you do in her shoes?
