Have you ever had a moment of panic where you want to style your hair a certain way but are missing or forgot the key styling tools you need?

For instance, have you ever wanted nice curly or wavy hair for some kind of event but didn’t have your curling wand on hand?

Well, as it turns out, the only hair styling tool you really need to make sure is with you at all times is a flat iron.

Why? A flat iron can both straighten and curl your hair, as long as you use the proper technique!

If you want to curl your hair with only a flat iron on hand, here’s how to make it happen.

First things first, the most important starting step for styling your hair is to prep it. Before using your flat iron, be sure to spray or apply some heat protectant to your hair. It makes a difference in the long run and will help protect your hair from serious damage.

Next, to make things a bit easier for yourself, you should section your hair so that each piece you curl comes out evenly. Clip certain sections of your hair back and focus on one layer at a time so you can keep track of where you are and what you have left to do.

Now it’s time to curl. Gather a one-inch section of your hair and glide the flat iron down from your roots to the ends of your hair, rotating your wrist to create a curl that goes away from your face.

You want to rotate the iron all the way around so that your section of hair wraps around it once as you gently glide it down.
