Starting In The Middle Ages, Weasel Fur Was One Of The Most Treasured And Valuable Animal Pelts Among European Royals, Seen As Elite And Influential Due To The Animal’s Reputation For Being Rare And Tough To Aquire

If you look at photos and paintings of European royals, you’ll likely see ermine print pop up a lot. For instance, one of the royal family’s Crown Jewels, St. Edward’s Crown, which Queen Elizabeth II and many monarchs before her wore during their coronations, is wrapped in ermine fur.

There is a famous portrait of Queen Elizabeth I with an ermine resting on her arm. In some cultures, it was believed to bring dignity and honor to the person wearing it.

While ermine clothing is not in high demand today as it was for royals back then, there’s no doubt they have a fascinating place in fashion history and made their mark on many of the world’s monarchs.

Have you heard of ermines before now?
