This 24-year-old woman and her fiancé, who is 25, have been together for two years and engaged for six months.

When they first met, they also bonded over their shared love of dogs since they both had their own pups.

She has a male Boston terrier that’s only 14 pounds, which is quite small for the breed. Her fiancé, on the other hand, has a large German shepherd mix that weighs between 70 and 80 pounds.

“But he adopted this dog from a shelter with known behavioral issues. This was before we met, as I said,” she detailed.

So, unfortunately, her fiancé’s dog is extremely aggressive and always has been. Yes, the dog plays fetch with her fiancé just fine and, in general, behaves okay around her.

However, her fiancé’s dog will randomly become very aggressive. He also is specifically food aggressive and can be destructive at home.

Moreover, she can’t even walk her fiancé’s dog since he becomes very aggressive around other big dogs. If he sees another large dog during a walk, he will start freaking out and yanking her around on the leash.

“And he’s snarled and barked at my dog before, so I tend to keep them separate,” she added.

“This has caused a few arguments because my fiancé thinks I’m favoring my dog by taking him on walks or to the park without them.”

About a year ago, her fiancé’s dog even bit her simply because she had a strawberry in her hand – and the pup wanted her food. After her hand was injured, her fiancé apparently tried to train his dog, but nothing really worked.

Still, this past week, she finally hit her breaking point – because her own dog was injured by her fiancé’s pet.

For some context, her dog is normally very well-behaved and knows not to enter her fiancé’s dog’s kennel. Nonetheless, her fiancé happened to leave a treat in the kennel, so her Boston terrier broke the routine and went inside the kennel anyway.

At that point, her fiancé’s dog attacked her own 14-pound pup.

“I tried to pick my dog up to get him away from the German shepherd, and it bit me on my arm and scratched my face. I had to get my arm glued at the ER and antibiotics,” she revealed.

“Luckily, my dog wasn’t hurt badly, just his paw bitten and one of his nails broken.”

Regardless, she was left feeling infuriated. She realizes that both she and her fiancé view their dogs as their “babies,” and she personally would never want to give up her own pup.

“But mine doesn’t bite. Mine is trained, sweet, and well-behaved. Mine also isn’t 75 pounds – enough to cause a lot more damage if it was worse,” she reasoned.

So, she decided to put her foot down and tell her fiancé that she’d had enough of his dog. Then, she gave him an ultimatum – saying he either needed to get rid of the German shepherd or she was leaving.

“I refuse to have to hide my dog away when we move in together, and I especially refuse to potentially have a baby around the dog in the future,” she vented.

Even so, she’s still unsure if giving her fiancé this ultimatum was justified or a jerky move.

Do you think the ultimatum was necessary after what happened? How would you feel in her shoes?
