This made him kind of annoyed, too, yet he continued trying to keep things “lighthearted” by offering to pay for her Uber home. However, his date turned down his offer and brought up how he just didn’t pay for her drink again.
That pushed him to ask if, all banter aside, his date was being “for real.” To his surprise, she said yes, doubled down, and claimed she believed men should pay the tab on dates.
“I really had fun with you tonight, but if you want to see me again, I’m not gonna be your sugar daddy,” he replied.
Right after he said that he realized that his date was probably just drunk. So, he tried to tell her that they had a great time, and he didn’t want to end things on a bad note. This helped diffuse the situation, and he wound up giving his date a hug and a kiss before they both parted ways.
In hindsight, he also clarified how in any other situation, he actually would have paid for the entire date.
But, the woman had already opened a tab before he arrived and drank only one more cocktail afterward – which was $8.
“I had one opportunity to put her one additional drink on my tab and missed it, so I got hounded for it at the end of the night,” he explained.
“To her point, she did pay for two Ubers and her own drink, so I understand why she might feel she put way more into the date financially. But I did offer to pay for her Uber, and she declined.”
According to him, the woman was also “very apologetic” about the whole situation afterward. Nonetheless, he still can’t help but wonder if not paying for his date made him a jerk.
Do you think he was in the wrong for not paying? How would you have handled this situation?
