Dating is difficult enough without having to play FBI agent. She returned to the dating world, and it sadly came with a crash course in modern deceit.
After matching with a charming guy who loved animals and the great outdoors, she thought she’d finally found a good one…until she and her friends uncovered the truth: he was married, with a number of kids, and a double life straight out of a Netflix docuseries.
This woman is in her 30s, and she became single not that long ago after her decade-long engagement to a man came to an end. From there, she had no choice but to get back out there and date, as she doesn’t want to end up alone.
“Being a [work from home], social circle the size of a Cheerio, pick up groceries kind of girlie, I inevitably had to resort to online dating apps,” she explained.
“I matched with a guy, super cute, similar interests, seemed nice enough. We chatted for a bit, didn’t seem like a serial killer, so we went on a few dates.”
“He had no social media presence at all, veteran (army ranger – wore the hat/hoodie as ‘proof’), liked dogs and hiking, we had great chemistry and the conversation flowed effortlessly, so far no red flags. Maybe dating in your 30s isn’t as bad as they say? WRONG.”
A couple of weeks into dating this guy, she found it odd that they had only spent time at her house, not his. She asked to meet his dogs and see where he lived, but he kept blowing her off.
Finally, she said that the next time they decided to have a sleepover, it had to be at his home, and he definitely got nervous about that.
The red flags started to fly, and she enlisted the help of her friends to do some digging on this guy. They used Google Maps, researched property records, and did a deep dive on Facebook to piece together information on him.

Sadly, they discovered that this guy is actually married with six kids!!! He’s actually not anywhere on social media, but his wife is.
“They were the real deal, Christmas pictures in matching PJs, mushy gushy anniversary posts about the life they had built together. To top it all off, her first husband had died in Afghanistan. And his job was….. You guessed it, an army ranger,” she added.
You see, she actually had this guy meet one of her friends who is a veteran, and he said there was no way the guy she was seeing served in anything since he did not act like a soldier.
She was livid when she learned that the guy she was seeing was a liar. His wife appeared to be a wonderful woman, and she set out to tell her.
She wrote a note to her on her phone, edited it countless times, and then asked her friends to help make it perfect before sending it out.
“I provided screenshots of his Tinder profile as evidence. She was obviously heartbroken and doubtful at first, but I had the receipts,” she added.
“He never messaged me again, but based on his Tinder location, WHICH HE KEPT ACTIVE, he left the state for a while. Her social media profiles have since been scrubbed of all evidence of his existence.”
“On one hand, I feel guilty for blowing up their ‘perfect’ family, but on the other, he did it to himself by acting like a [jerk].”
She’s not out to validate what she did, but she is out to warn you about dating if you’re single and in your 30s.
Well, trust your gut, do your research, and never apologize for protecting yourself or another woman from someone else’s lies. Oh, and she needs to reframe things: she didn’t wreck his marriage, he did that all on his own when he decided to cheat!
