There are few things more frustrating than witnessing someone you love make a colossally poor choice, and nothing you say can convince them otherwise. Is the only solution to just sit there and wait, ready to help them pick up the pieces when things inevitably blow up for them?
This woman has a daughter who is technically her stepdaughter, but her biological mom passed away when she was only eight. She married her stepdaughter’s dad many years later, and he sadly passed away four years ago.
She never had children of her own, and she still talks to her daughter, who is now 23. Recently, her daughter confessed to her that she’s sleeping with her boss, and she’s proud of it.
“He is married, has 2 kids at home, and is a 43-year-old man. I don’t know what to do. I suggested therapy; she said she doesn’t need it, that she is fine, that she enjoys this,” she explained.
“I told her he will not leave his wife for you, and she said he doesn’t have to. She wants to be the one that offers him what the wife won’t because she is a prude. I don’t want her to ruin her life. She is a beautiful young woman who did great in school.”
“I never faced any problems with her. She never even dated anyone, not in high school, not in college. She said she never feels attracted enough to anyone. She has hobbies, used to volunteer, [and] reads. I just don’t know what happens. One day she cooked for him. She spends a lot of money to cook for him almost every day.”
She underscored to her daughter that she is helping her boss destroy his wife’s life, and her response was that life is not exactly fair for anyone, so oh well.
She gets that her daughter is a consenting adult, but she wants to get her to quit wasting her prime years on this trashy man. Sure, he’s handsome and has a lot of power, but she can already tell how this is going to play out, and this man will never pick her daughter.
The way her daughter is talking, it’s like her plan is to baby trap her boss, and she will definitely regret that in a couple of years, so she desperately wants to wake her up.
She’s left wondering how she can help her daughter see reality. Additionally, she’s concerned that her daughter and her boss will get reported to HR and she will get fired, not her boss. This is a very large company they work for, after all.
Ok, so this might make her daughter hate her, but she should go to her boss’s wife and tip that poor woman off to the affair. I’m sure her daughter will piece together that she did it, but I don’t see any other way to get her daughter to quit before she’s in too deep or suffers serious consequences.
