If a guy appears to be nice, that doesn’t mean you should let your guard down, as TikToker Sarah (@sarahwhiteandsmall) has learned.

She matched with a seemingly nice guy on a dating app, and they talked for a couple of weeks before planning their first date. However, he had forgotten about a work event he had in the middle of the day, so they had to reschedule their date.

“I was…hurt about that, and I gave him a hard time about it, and I honestly didn’t really want to talk to him after that because if you can’t man your calendar and be an adult, you shouldn’t be dating; don’t waste other people’s time,” Sarah said.

He insisted that he would make up for it, so she gave him another chance. They kept their plans of going to the market. She got out of work at 8 p.m. and discovered that the market closed at 9 p.m. So, they were only there for 45 minutes, and he was rude to the workers the entire time.

He had also found another place for them to continue their date—an Italian restaurant that he had been to before. She had looked up the menu earlier, and it seemed a little pricy, so she was prepared to pay for herself if needed.

At the restaurant, he ordered wine and talked her into ordering a cocktail. Every time she took a drink and set the glass back down, he would move it around the table.

It was freaking her out, so she asked why he kept touching her drink. Apparently, he was afraid that they were going to knock it over accidentally. She moved it out of his reach because he was acting strangely.

He ordered a full meal, and she got something off the menu that wasn’t expensive. When the waiter brought the check over, he looked at it and said that he wasn’t prepared for how expensive it was.

Sarah offered to cover her own food, which cost $30. He suggested that they split the check, but she shot that idea down right away.

“He insists on walking me to my car, which he didn’t need to do because I could see it from the front door,” she said. “Also, you’re not fooling with me your gentleman act. You just proved it to me that you’re not one in the restaurant.”

On the way to her car, he tried to hug and kiss her, which she dodged. When she got into her car, he made another attempt to hug and kiss her and ended up landing a kiss on her cheek.

He told her to text him when she arrived home, but she was already strongly considering ghosting him. The horrible experience left her with two very clear lessons: don’t pick a place you can’t afford for a date, and don’t give the nice guy a chance because they might be just as bad as the other guys.

Sometimes, the nice guys are just better at hiding the red flags.
